  • Description

    Description

We are a couple in their 70's with a 2 acre garden, 2 cats, 2 hens and a dog. The garden keeps us pretty busy and we are more or less self sufficient in vegetables. We garden organically and use the no - dig methods of gardening. We like to travel away in our camper van when we get the chance. We also have an interest in Buddhism and meditation and Rohana plays the cello.
We live in a rural area and quite close to beaches, woodland and other lovely walks.
We think our garden is a peaceful and lovely place to have time out.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

we are happy to involve you in our lives and take you out with us when you want to. We have an extensive knowledge of vegetable growing, particularly using the no-dig method and are happy to share our expertise in this although it is important to say that we are still learning and always happy to learn new things.
We are really interested in other cultures, ways of living and political thinking and enjoy exploring these differences and learning more about the world.
We are both interested in Buddhism and meditation.

  • Help

    Help

What works for us is to have someone stay for a few days to help us in the garden with weeding, planting, compost making or harvesting and then for us to go away for a few days leaving someone to pet sit, water the polytunnel and do a small bit in the garden. This is mainly for May, June, July and August. We would sometimes have a car available for use but only for people over 25 who have a clean licence from Ireland, EU or UK (insurance limitations). We do have 2 e-bikes which we are happy to lend out. We normally only have people for 2 weeks or less. As we have a lot of applications it would be helpful if you could let me know that you have read this section and understand what we are looking for. It cuts down on the paperwork! :)

We are currently learning French although at a beginner stage but would like to improve. We are happy to assist people who are learning English and find conversations about language and its nuances very interesting. We have also played scrabble in French and English at the same time!

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

We have a comfortable bedroom available upstairs with a double bed. You would have your own adjoining bathroom. We sleep downstairs so there is a good sense of privacy in the guest bedroom and it has a good view over the garden and surrounding fields. Our cottage is not very big but is cosy and warm and you are welcome to feel at home in all areas of the house.
We would of course provide all your food but we tend to be quite casual about breakfast and lunch and would hope that you would just get your own and let us know what you need us to have in stock for you. Dinner is a more communal meal and we would provide this although if someone likes to cook we are quite happy for that to happen as well!

  • What else ...

    What else ...

We do need people who are fairly self sufficient and happy with their own company and being out in the countryside as it is quiet where we live. In recognising that we always try to accommodate assisting people with lifts to somewhere they might want to visit. This situation may be better for an older person or couple although we are not fixed about that - it's just that we are not young ourselves!! We are fairly close to Waterford and Wexford and are at the top of the Hook Peninsula which has some lovely beaches.

Good Internet. I work a couple of days a week from home but would happily share my work space on other days. Alternatively we could fix up a table in your bedroom.

Vishnu and Kali and Saga the dog.

The cats are gorgeous Siamese cats and are very little trouble. They come and go as they please and just need feeding twice a day. Saga, the dog, is very intelligent, well behaved and good company on a walk. She isn't perfect! But as she gets older and wiser she gets closer.

    Vishnu and Kali (4 years)

2 gorgeous Siamese cats who are pretty self sufficient and come and go as they please. Really, they just need feeding twice a day and a cuddle if they ask.
