Workawayers wanted January
We are a friendly couple living our dream on our farm in the Perth hills. It's wonderfully peaceful here. We have echidnas and parrots on our block (galahs, red and white-tailed black cockatoos, splendid fairy wrens and honey-eaters). We drink rain water and heat our water with solar or wood. We grow jujubes in a 80m by 30m netted orchard. One of us works the block, the other works at a University in Perth, so we'd love some help around the farm. You'd be sharing our home. It's a passive solar (so built East to West) tin-roofed, single-story brick house, with verandahs and a massive wooden deck.

We would be delighted to host people from other countries and are happy to teach them different skills, including how to look after a bush block. At times, we also soft-release wildlife from our local animal hospital and you would be able to help care for them. The area where we live is lovely: brown and sunburnt in summer and green and lush in winter. It's in the hills above Perth, close to the Sir John Forrest and Wandoo National Parks, and to Lake Leschuenaltia (summer swimming). Perth CBD is an hour away, and the beaches of Perth, Fremantle and beyond are just a little further. From Perth, you can take the ferry to Rottnest Island, swim with dolphins, and visit little penguins.

We are looking for help with the day to day care of our dog and many chickens and with other general property tasks, such as burning off and chopping or stacking wood. Our property includes a vegetable garden and a wide range of fruit trees. You must be comfortable around dogs - we have 1 rescued from the local pound. We sometimes agist horses in our paddocks. We prefer two workawayers at a time. This is a no smoking property.

In return for some general work on the property we can offer a separate bedroom, separate bathroom, large, shared kitchen, dining and lounge area, food and WiFI. Lunch and breakfast are a help-yourself-style from food/ingredients we will provide. Generally, we would eat supper together. You'd be welcome to cook too (we have a wood-fired Rayburn for cooking in the winter, a separate gas oven, Thermomix, and an enormous, outdoor BBQ with a rotisserie). One of us is FODMAP intolerant (no gluten, garlic, onions or apples), the other eats everything, and we both eat meat, fish and vegetarian foods. So, if you have food intolerances, let us know as we can probably manage that. We have an enormous, shaded deck (8m by 8m) with a massive hammock and outdoor furniture. The perfect place to while away your downtime.
We are situated 4km from Gidgegannup townsite, 20km from Midland (nearest station), 30km to Perth airport and 45km Perth City Centre. Would suit people with their own transport, or those who are happy to be with us for the majority of their visit, as there is no public transport. For those without transport, one of us is happy to give them a lift to the station in the morning and pick up on the way home from work.
