    Description

Mexico hostel. Here's an opportunity to visit San Cristobal de las Casas and meet the most popular maestro (teacher) of salsa and bachata in Chiapas. We have this little project called a hostel, and we need someone to help us prepare it. If you dance something already, we can provide for you a salsa and bachata class if you like it. Any questions?:)

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

Practising Spanish through daily conversation with us, learning and dancing salsa and bachata with an experienced maestro, and enjoying the rich cultural experience of Chiapas. San Cristóbal is one of the most beautiful towns here — that’s why people call it magic. The weather is perfect for living (not too hot - like on the beach, usually it's more around 25°C). Here’s a large local market where you can buy very cheap and organic fruits and vegetables (Chiapas is much cheaper compared to other states). You can find delicious mangos for even 10–15 pesos per kilo in season, avocados for 18 pesos per kilo and much, much more.
There’s also a nice and quite big international community here. People living in Chiapas are coming from all over the world. Many artists are developing or sharing their skills in San Cris. You can find here all kinds of classes: yoga, theatre, and making chocolate. Also, cacao ceremonies, temazcal, and a lot of concerts. From our side, we can show you on the map which places you have to visit, so you won't regret not going there:)

*Oh, and we can also add you to the local events group in San Cristóbal if you’d like to know what’s happening around town — just write to us (even if you’re considering other projects, it's one of the ways we help the San Cris community grow & stay connected☺️🌎).

    Building Help Wanted 🛠️
If you have building experience, let us know which project you’d like to help with 🙂

    1. Right now:
We’re looking for someone, with or without experience, who is motivated and committed to helping us finish a small cabana. Most of the tasks are already done, but we could use an extra pair of hands. Basic DIY skills are a plus, and it would be great if you have used a drill before.

    2. Sauna project:
If you have experience building a wooden garden sauna, that’s something we’d be very interested!
    3. Another possible project:
Building a small wooden storage house (approx. 2m x 1m x 2m) for garden tools and a lawnmower, using pallets (including taking boards apart and reusing the wood).

    Hospitality 🏡
We’re looking for someone to help with hospitality tasks: changing beds, cleaning common areas, and occasionally welcoming guests (we have just six rooms to rent - one is a shared room).
We need someone reliable who can:
-Change sheets and sometimes hang the laundry
    -Clean 2 bathrooms
    - Vacuum and mop the floors
    - Keep the space tidy once or twice a day (that means if you're working in the morning, you can clean the floor in the evening in the kitchen or take out trash if it's full - kitchen, bathrooms).
It’s usually an easy job and takes about 1–3 hours a day — we also help with it. If there’s not much to do in the hostel, we often need help in the garden too. If you’re quick and efficient, it usually takes about 1.5 to 2 hours a day. That’s around 10–15 hours per week.

Artists & Creatives - **please, send us your Instagram with art, page, or just send on WhatsApp your previous work**
We’re looking for artists with a portfolio to paint Aztec-style or similar motifs on the walls—maybe a big mandala on the terrace, or something crazy and cool. Musicians, yoga teachers, and other creatives are also welcome. We have plenty of space on the terrace and in the garden, and we’re open to your ideas for collaboration. For example, if you bring people to stay at the hostel, you can use a space to run a workshop and receive accommodation (naturally, we need to know this before).

Yoga teachers & other open-air classes - our suggestion
Usually, we don’t have enough guests interested in classes to make a proper-daily exchange. However, if you invite a minimum of 3 people per day to stay at our hostel, you can stay for free that night in the shared room and also have space to give classes at your own price (you could offer a small discount for hostel guests). For people coming only for classes, we would take around 20% to cover basic costs such as toilet paper, water and taking care of general security. We have two used yoga mats, a very large garden, and an open terrace space suitable for around 20 people practising yoga comfortably.
Also, please tell us your idea of exchange!:)

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

Accommodation is in a shared room, but in reality it feels almost like a private room. At the moment, there's only one bunk bed in the room, so most of the time you'll have plenty of space to yourself. Occasionally, another person may stay there too, but that's not very common, as we're gradually turning the room into a larger private room. It's spacious and comes with a desk, chair, desk lamp, and your own locker.

Stable, fast wifi - fiber optics (welcome digital nomads), hot water, a fully equipped kitchen with induction, high-level clean drinking water in the kitchen, a huge garden, medium size swimming pool, spaces for study and relax, etc., books for reading (Eng, Spanish, German, French, and others), volleyball, basketball (to play outside where's a place for that), badminton, maybe soon a ping pong table and/or a sauna. If you're staying with us for a longer period, feel free to use our bicycle to get around and explore the city. We only require that, if it somehow gets stolen, you cover the replacement cost :)

  • What else ...

    What else ...

If you are just looking for a nice place to stay for some time in exchange for doing some tasks, this is the perfect place for you!

What makes this place special is the freedom. We give people plenty of space, lots of free time, and trust them to enjoy it however they wish. No pressure, no constant supervision – just a relaxed atmosphere ❤️ We love friendly conversations and spending time together from time to time, but we also appreciate people who are comfortable being independent and creating their own adventures, whether on their own or with other guests and volunteers at the hostel✌️ Also the city has plenty going on, with lots of places to explore, events to discover, and opportunities to meet new people😁👩‍❤️‍👨🍺

(In return, we ask that the agreed tasks are done carefully and with attention to detail. We appreciate people who are self-motivated and enjoy doing a good job without being constantly reminded. We'll always be around for guidance and regular check-ins, but we believe trust works better than micromanagement. Nobody is expected to be perfect, and honest mistakes can happen, what matters is genuinely caring about the quality of the help)

    Can possibly accept pets

We accept cats and little pets (with an extra 100-150 pesos in a private room, depending on season), dogs usually, with similar conditions - just write us about your pet, and we will give you actual information:) And if there aren’t many guests in private rooms (for example, during low season), we may be able to offer an exchange for a private room more easily. From June, we’ll probably have an additional very cosy cabana, so it may be easier for you to stay longer with your pet while helping us with housekeeping tasks:)
