    Description

Hi! We are a family of six, and live on a small 3 acre property in Lilydale, Tasmania.

Myself (Kylie) , my partner (Tanya), our three kids and their grandmother (Linda) live on the top of a small hill with a great view of Mt Arthur, and are a 20 minute drive away from Launceston. Lilydale is a cute little town with a couple of cafes, a takeaway shop and a small supermarket. Depending on when you come there are concerts/performances at the local club, as well as a monthly market here in town.

We identify as LGBTQ. Therefore, we would like to host people who are open-minded and friendly. We are more than happy to have people from the LGBTQ+ community, queer individuals, neurodivergent, women, and gender non-conforming people stay—anyone looking for a safe, inclusive, and discrimination-free space. Both myself and Tanya work as Sign Language interpreters so we are more than happy to have any Deaf people come and stay as well.

When we bought this property it was just a house with an orchard. Since then we have added a tiny house, a potting shed and have been focussing on planting a food forest and establishing our gardens. We don’t have plans to sell anything we grow, we are simply hoping to be as self sufficient as possible and have enough to share with our friends and neighbours.
We are slowly adding to our menagerie. We currently have five chickens, one dog and two cats. We are planning to get some more chickens as well as ducks soon. The chickens and ducks' jobs are to scratch up the ground, eat the pests and look cute.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

We are a family of introverts and although we like a good conversations we do need time alone to charge our batteries. So if you need lots of company and engaging in hours of talking.....this is probably not the right place for you.
However we are friendly and kind and will help you with any questions, language and local information.

Our whole family is interested in languages, and learning how different they can be to English. One of my sons is currently learning Japanese, the other two children have an interest in Korean and Spanish though have yet to do any formal classes as there isn't much available locally.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

We have a very small tiny home that has a queen size bed, very small kitchen and bathroom. It can sleep two people as it has a queen size bed, however the rest of the space is very small, so we can have two people stay but you would be sharing a bed and a small living space.
We would prefer it if you cook for yourself in the tiny as my family tends to eat separately to each other (different food habits and neurodivergent needs), but we are happy to supply food if needed, though it would be predominantly vegetarian.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

As I said earlier we are quite introverted and tend to keep to ourselves so we are wanting people that don't expect us to socialise a lot, although we are happy to have casual conversations and answer any questions you may have.
The local buses don't run frequently so it would be best if you have your own transport arranged. However we would be happy to pick up and drop off from Launceston if needed.
