Description
We live on a 95-acre Forest Lot on Galiano Island, British Columbia. We have 2 large horses and 2 cats, and we need help building trails to hike and ride the horses on. All help is for our private home and gardens. We also need help cutting up firewood and chipping branches. I also need help picking up the horse manure and soil to make more gardens. Our property is right next to Dionisio Park, which is one of the most beautiful places on Galiano Island. We have a cabin for you to stay in, but we are living off-grid, so there is no power or water at the cabin, and it is unfinished inside. We are living in an RV, and not the cabin in a different area of the property, where we have solar for power, a well for water, so we have full facilities here. We love to cook, and we are pescatarians, so we only eat seafood, eggs and cheese, and lots of vegetables. Our property has one kilometer of oceanfront, and we look out over the ocean to Vancouver. This is an amazing property, and we have only been here for 4 years, and we are still waiting for our rezoning so we can build a house, but in the meantime, we are working on cleaning up the forest. You can hike from here for hours on end; the trails are endless, it seems. If you like horses, you could also go for a trail ride with me when I am not working and time permits. We love having bonfires when permitted seasonally (spring and fall).

We have had volunteers for about 6 years at our last residence. We had people from all over the World stay with us, and we loved it. It was wonderful learning about other people's Countries and learning a bit of their language. I am a landscape designer and I have a passion for learning about native plants and wild mushrooms. I can teach people about our native plants and edible mushrooms when we go for walks through the forest.
Help
All help is on our private home, forest and gardens. Generally, we need help with packing wood out of the forest which we can cut up into firewood, making trails by clearing out trees that have fallen in the forest, and cleaning up the forest to make it healthier. We could also use help picking up the horse manure and taking it to make garden beds. We do have a very small vegetable garden and will expand it one day once we can clear a large area of trees. We would work with you sometimes, and other times let you go out and do things on your own once you are comfortable with the tasks. We have a Quad which is super fun to get around on, which is handy on such a large property.

We have a 500 sq ft Cabin on the Oceanfront with one queen-sized bed and one couch that pulls out to a double bed. We have all the bedding and blankets. There is a wood stove in the cabin if it gets cool. Currently, the toilet is a composting toilet. The cabin is not finished inside, and that is also something we could use help with. We live a few minutes away in an RV with full amenities, using Solar in the summer, which we will share as needed. We have the Starlink satellite system, so you can keep connected with your computers or phones.
We will provide all the food. We do not eat Meat, just seafood, eggs, cheese, and loads of Vegetables. If you like to cook, we always welcome help in the kitchen. What else ...
For your off time, we are right on the oceanfront, and we have canoes and kayaks, so you can go out on the water and there are hiking trails that go on for ever . We are right next to Dionisio Park, Galiano's most beautiful Park with a wonderful sandy beach for swimming, only a 20 minutes walk from our place. Horse riding is also an option.
