Our Hostel is run by a local family. It has only 7 bedrooms. It is small, and has a good vibe. We have all the information you need about the area. We're located next to the best spots of Old Town from Cartagena. We are a few minutes walk from the Historic Center, San Felipe Castle, Bocagrande beaches, ect.... Also we are not far from the airport, the port, and about a hour ride in a local bus from the terminal. We are like a little family here, and as long as you have a good work ethic and like to have fun, it will be a good time.

Right now we need volunteers to run our reception and to make a great first impression of our hostel. We require a minimum of one month as it can take a little time to learn the hostel and the surrounding area ***(continue reading for opportunities to volunteer for less time). We need people with at least a basic level of Spanish. This means that we need volunteers to at least be able to describe our rooms and answer basic questions about the hostel. The more the better, but you MUST tell us your level of Spanish in your initial message to us, please and thank you.
Reception work includes you doing check-in and check-out, handling money, imputing information for migration, and letting people in and out of the hostel gate. You will never be left completely alone as we always have a family member or experience volunteer with you. If you are able we might ask for some help with very minimal repair work or cleaning.
You need to be assertive to assure that people pay before leaving or to not let some people in, but its really easy and we can train you on this. We are looking for people with exceptional work ethic, even when the tasks seem minimal. We are very relaxed, but want people to arrive on time and be dependable. Communication is very important in the operation of our hostel, and we hope to find people who can understand this. Having a great outlook on life and passion is highly appreciated.
This is a great place to volunteer. The hostel is small enough that its relaxed, but we get some really cool people here from all over. The work is not difficult, and you will have plenty of time for the beach, the nightlife, and any of the other things that might have brought you to our city. Also this is one of the larger cities with the most character in the Caribbean side of Colombia. It is a great stop before or after the parks and beach towns up north.
***Volunteering for less than a month: We are a really small hostel and we have to be careful with money and budgets. So if there are carpenters and or skilled home repairmen you can message use and see if we need something repaired or built. This is more for bigger projects like building chair, beds, ect.... We also might have positions available if you are good at painting art on the walls. Volunteering for less than a month does not really include small projects like painting a wall a single color or replacing light bulbs for example.
Normally we provide a bed in our air conditioned dorm bed with six beds or if in a single bunk bed room with fans. If the hostel is full you might take a 10 minute bus to our lovely house and sleep there. Of course if this is the case we will pay for the transportation.
You will also be provided with breakfast and lunch.
Since Cartagena is on of the most expensive cities in all Colombia, this would be the best opportunity to stay a while and get to know the town properly. As we are locals you could have the best references for places and get to know Spanish and our culture. Our hostel is located in the tourist center of Cartagena. We are on the party strip (it can be loud so be prepared for that) and there are all kinds of clubs, dance bars, restaurants, plazas, superstores, and anything else you might need. There are hostels everywhere so its not hard to find some people at the bars that are ready to make friends. Everything else like the Old City, the beach, and shopping are all really close so there is no need for taxis.
We get a lot of request, so in your email, tell us your:
1. Expected arrival date
2. How much time you plan to spend here
3. Why you are fit for working with us and what you can add to our hostel.
4. Your Spanish level.
5. How much you have already traveled Colombia.
You do not need any prior experience, but knowing these things about you can help us to chose the best volunteers.
It is all here waiting for you. See you soon !! :)
