    Description

We are a German pet welfare organization working to improve the situation for dogs and cats in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Together with our partners from the Bosnian NGO we own and operate the shelter, a small animal shelter in the hills near Mostar. It is a modern, cozy shelter that gives both dogs and cats the option to live and play in groups, enjoy sunbaths, get lots of hugs and cuddles and basic training to ensure they have a good time while staying with us.

Our employees as well as our volunteers are highly motivated animal lovers that do their utmost for our pets. We're looking for you if you share the same spirit and love for animals!

You will get to know diverse people with diverse backgrounds. Depending on the tasks you want to do, our team will be there to guide you and help you whereever possible. In your freetime we would highly recommend to roam around Mostar and get to know the city in detail as it offers so many interesting places, people and culture. Starting in the historic old town of Mostar with its famous bridge "Stari Most" and a lot of small, local stores, moving on to all the small backyard alleys where locals tend to spend their time and of course following the Neretva out of town to lots of beautiful nature, waterfalls and parks.

The tasks are very diverse, from a broad range of maintenance and construction works (e.g. building wooden dog kennels, painting walls and metal elements, repairing broken stuff, tiling, etc.), to all sorts of support in our caregiving to our dogs and cats (cleaning, feeding, lots of cuddles and playtime, making beautiful pictures and videos of them, go for walks, etc.)

    Accommodation

Your accommodation is right next to the shelter in an insulated and air-conditioned up-cycled shipping container. The tiny house offers a double bed, seating options and a table - but the best of it: the view! Imagine waking up in the mornings and being greeted with a wonderful view over the entire valley.

Kitchen, toilet and shower are in the main house of the shelter and are free to use. We're happy to provide ingredients for your meals and are pretty sure that there are some evenings where the team and you could also cook together - let's just discuss upfront about preferences, etc.

Attention! We currently have no car we could offer for your trips to the city. It would therefore be important to either come by car / motorbike or rent something in the city (the rent for cars are rather low) as all the stores are in the city and there only is an oil station with snacks ~ 1km from the shelter.

Camping with a van would also be an option if you're on a roadtrip and want to stay with us for a bit.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

    Houserules:
    - no smoking inside the buildings
    - after 8pm the dogs and cats typically rest and want to catch some sleep so please make sure to not disturb with loud music, shouting, etc.
    - always make sure to follow the instructions given by the team. Most important: always make sure to close the main door of the shelter before entering the inner courtyard. Same goes for the cat house: always close the entrance door before entering one of the cat rooms. Safety of our cats and dogs is the most important thing!
    - the working hours of our team change with the seasons. Especially during summertime they tend to start rather early in the mornings to avoid the midday heat and will come back late in the afternoon for a second round of feeding, etc.

Currently, there is no WIFI available. We're working on that topic to hopefully be able to provide anything in the future. Though, the mobile phone reception is very good and local sim cards /esims are affordable in BiH.

    Can possibly accept pets

Whilst we love all pets, its not as easy as it might look to integrate external dogs in our play groups in the courtyard. Therefore your dog(s) would need to stay in the main building or within our accomodation whilst you work inside the shelter. For this, the dog must be housetrained, free of contagious diseases and have all typical vaccinations. Female dogs in heat are not allowed as the smell would cause a ruccus. Cats and other pets can't enter the shelter, as we don't have any secure space for them.
