We are a young couple with 3 year old twin girls and a wee baby boy and recently bought a big old house to put them in. The house is in a very small village just 20mins drive from Kiel in the north of Germany.
I'm Kirk (35) and from New Zealand, but chased Theresa (32) to her homeland Germany five years ago and things seem to have worked out quite well....
We both love to travel and share yarns from places and people we've met along the way, but are now keen to establish a solid foundation to raise our wee family.
Having little kids is heaps of fun, but a bit mad, and buying a house to renovate at the same time is even madder. So, we are looking for someone who would like to be a part of our family for 2 weeks or more so you can get to know us and help us make this place our home.
At the moment Theresa and I are both at home full time. Pre-covid I worked a couple of days a week as an English teacher at the university in Kiel, and as a tour guide in the summer months. Theresa is a naval architect but is home at the moment on maternity leave and is building a boat in her free time too. We're both very happy to have chats and cups of tea in either English or German.
If you're looking for a quiet space in the countryside interspersed with mad toddler time please get in touch. We'd love to have you.

Help around the house
This project could involve children. For more information see our guidelines and tips here.
If we are heading anywhere you are most welcome to come with us, to explore or visit friends and family. We'll treat you as one of your family. I'm a Kiwi and Theresa is a Northern German - so you'll get to experience the best of both worlds...!
Skills/things we're looking for:
Experience with young kids or motivation to learn would be awesome. Holding them, playing with them, feeding them and hanging out. If you love kids come and stay with us. Our kids are pretty relaxed most of the time and giggly and heaps of fun, but please realise that they are just wee and do cry sometimes. If you simply want to look after the girls and play with them for the day it would help to simply free one of us up for a bit to do something on the house or in the garden.
Cooking – if you love to cook, we love to eat. Theresa is a pretty good cook I reckon, and I can make a few things too but if cooking is your thing, you are most welcome here. Mealtimes would be shared and of course we can cater to most tastes. We don't cook a lot of meat ourselves, but are happy to eat it if you cook it!
Any skills with your hands: there is heaps to do here. We are renovating an entire 230 square metre house room by room, so if you have any handy skills or are keen to hold a paint brush or have any experience with building that'd be wonderful. Any and all skills are welcome. We're also happy to take on your ideas and creativity and be inspired.
Fruit picking - We have a bunch of apple trees, a few pear trees, plums and cherries too. We also have a vege garden and greenhouse if you're keen to get stuck in to weeding...
You'll have your own room in our house, with a shared bathroom.
With the kids it's pretty quiet round here after about 9pm, so hope you are happy chilling on your own but we can hang out once the kids are happily sleeping the night away and we can hang out in front of the fire, or eat cake together!
Please note that our village is very small – with a population of just over 350 but is in a lovely spot. It's 5km to the nearest train station with trains running to Kiel regularly. However, you'll have a bike and I will happily take you in to Kiel on days when I'm working if you'd like. There are a number of nice walking tracks near our village, and a nice cafe by the lake (where you can go swimming) in a neighbouring village 3kms away.
