Implementing permaculture principles:
You can learn how to grow your own vegetables, learn about different types of garden beds their advantages/disadvantages, raising seedlings, learn about saving and reusing water.
learn about animals and animal systems
Enjoy animal company, it's really lovely spending time watching the pigs play or cuddle up for a snooze in the afternoon. Our dogs and cats love having a cuddle and a play and truly enjoy having company during the day. Our horse loves a scratch and a brush as well and is a real smooch too.
All our animals are fed twice a day and are handled: our piglets are growing fast but have good manners and come up when called and love a scratch.
If you like sports there is lots to do in the area, from hiking, mountain bike parks (downhill - Maldon, Wambat Forest Track - Woodend, MTB Park in Harcourt, and Mount Lofty Reserve) , canoeing/kayaking to watersports at the lake.
There are 3 micro breweries close by and we live in a wine growing area.
Local Farmers Markets on weekends in Kyneton, Lancefield, Romsey, Woodend and Castlemaine.
The gorgeous bluestone country Pub: Redesdale Hotel is just 5 min drive from us and doesn't just offer fabulous food but a real country feel with lovely people on both sides of the bar.
Visit lovely closeby country towns: Heathcote (Breweries & Wineries), Kyneton, Castlemaine, Woodend (Holgates brewery), Lancefield, Trentham (Red Beard Bakery & Waterfalls)
Our little property (4.5 acres) is situated in a lovely area near lake Eppalock.
We are implementing permaculture principles and are working toward living off the land.
Gardening: Building vegetable gardens, wicking beds, growing vegetables, building, composting,...
Animal care: chickens, pigs, cats, dogs, a horse, sheep and ducks: help with feeding and moving stock to new paddocks (rotational grazing).
General Maintenance: There is always something that needs to be fixed around the house, the shed or in the paddocks.
Help in the house: Helpers are part of the family and stay in the 3 bedroom house as part of the household everyone pitches in, many hands make light work :-)
Kitchen: depending on the time of year I might be making jam, preserves, dried fruit/vegetables etc. it's always more fun doing this in company with a good tune on the radio :-)
I am originally from Austria and came to Australia about 16 years ago I fell in love with the country and decided to stay. So my cooking is mostly European - I love cooking wholesome, healthy and tasty food. Always love to learn new things and exchange recipes from all over the world! We eat meat, sometimes it comes from the farm, other times from organic farmer friends. I am more than happy to cater for GF and vegetarian. There are chickens on the farm depending on the time of the year there will be fresh eggs.
My partner and I are both working full time. Russell has a bicyle shop, runs bike tours and skills clinics for kids as well as builds mountainbike parks.
I work as a landscaper, gardener and painter. We are both quite busy with our businesses and are looking for help around the house and farm.

In the 3 bedroom house as part of the family!
You will need a car to get around, there is no public transport. The house is situated on a plateau overlooking a pretty valley. It is only 10 minutes to Lake Eppalock and 5 minutes todesdale which has a bluestone country pub, a pretty little Cafe and Art Gallery, a petrol station, general store (very general) and post office. Melbourne is about an hour and ten minutes away.
This is a farming area with rolling hills and pretty open farmland. There are nice dirt roads with very low to n Reo traffic ideal for walks and to ride a bike!
There are wineries and organic farms worth while visiting in this area.
I would recommend day trips to Hanging Rock, Mt. Macedon, Woodend, Daylesford, Heathcote, Trentham, Maldon, Kyneton Castlemaine,... There are also farmers markets on weekends, they just in a different town each weekend.
If you like mountain biking my partner runs a bike shop and we can get you a hire bike to explore the local bike parks and tracks (rail trail from Heathcote to Bendigo, bike parks in Maldon, Woodend, Harcourt, Redesdale.
Cooking is shared depending on what's happening on the day.
This a non smoking house. I love sharing my house and love cooking as long as it is appreciated, previous helpers have been amazing! All tasks had been shared when some cooked the others would do the dishes, the kettle would be put on and everyone who wanted a tea was kindly made a tea - just little things like that. All household tasks were shared around without too much ado on who will do what -they just all pitched in - it was really lovely!
