We are a registered not for profit charity dedicated to rescue, rehabilitation, rehoming, and to compassionate sanctuary care.

Life is pretty relaxed, although there's always something to do and the animals certainly keep us busy! We're happy to share what we've learnt about caring for horses and dogs, animal rescue and living on a rural property.

We enjoy getting to know the people who stay with us, whether that's working together, having a chat over a cuppa or sharing a meal. We also love hearing about life in other parts of the world and learning from the different skills and experiences people bring.

We hope you'll feel at home here, enjoy being part of our little team and leave with some great memories, new skills and perhaps a few new four-legged friends!

  • Help

    Help

Every day here is a little different! We’re looking for people happy to get involved wherever an extra pair of hands is needed.

Your Duties may include some of the following:

Dogs — feeding, walking, enrichment, companionship, cleaning dog areas and helping with the daily care of our rescue dogs.

Horses & farm animals — feeding, checking water, grooming, cleaning areas, paddock jobs and general animal care. Horse experience is especially welcome.

Farm & property — gardening, mowing, weeding, paddock clean-ups, moving supplies, general farm jobs and keeping the property looking great.

Maintenance & projects — fencing, painting, repairs, carpentry, building shelters, fixing things and helping us continually improve the rescue. Practical/trade skills are a huge bonus!

Rescue support — helping unload donations and supplies, preparing spaces for incoming animals and lending a hand with the many little jobs that keep a rescue running.

You won't be expected to do everything. We match jobs to your skills, experience and what you're comfortable doing.

Above all, we're looking for people who are kind, practical, reliable, happy to get their hands dirty and genuinely love animals.

    Freckles

Freckles struts around like a super model. She is a very patient big sister to Jasper and Juniper and very respectful of all the animals in the sanctuary. Always on the hunt for a snack, she loves to do zoomies in the horse arena and adores beach outings.

Our Rescued Battery Hens - too many to name here :-)

Our beautiful girls, saved the cramped cages of an egg producing facility. When they arrived they were scrawny and dishevelled. They didn't know how to walk, had never felt the sun or rain on their feathers and were scared of open spaces. You should see them now! Their personalities have emerged, they bask in the sun and rain, and explore every inch of their chooky palace. Eggs are a bonus here and not expected. The eggs are usually fed to our rescue dogs for extra protein.

    Rueben

Dumped in a park as juvenile, Rueben was not definitely not having fun being chased by the local kids! He was rescued at the same time as Juliette (our rescue piggy) and they quickly became the best of friends. When he's not looking after his hens, Rueben can be found strutting around with Juliette or tucked up in her bed having a nap. He is a very handsome boy and extremely protective of all his girls (that includes of course Juliette).

    Juliette the Pig

Our beautiful baby pig (ok she's not a baby anymore) Juliette. Saved from the dinner plate, Juliette arrived as a tiny 2 week old piggy. Raised with Rueben our rescue rooster, these two are inseparable. Juliette adores belly and ear rubs and if you have food she will be your new best friend - don't ask her to share though. Juliette is soon to have a baby sister join her, another rescue we are looking forward to welcoming into our care.

    Phoenix

This gentle boy has the kindest eyes I've ever encountered in a horse. Phoenix is another Kosciuszko brumby. He ran his own mob in the mountains and was rescued from culling along with many other brumbies. Unfortunately he lost his family in the process but has gained a new one with Teddy, Zilloh and Tangara. Phoenix is shy and still learning trust humans - guess that is not surprising though. He follows me around the paddock like a shadow and is always looking out for his horsey mates.

    Zilloh

You will be mesmerised by his enchanting blue eyes. This boy knows he is handsome and works it to his advantage. A quarter horse/heavy horse mix, Zilloh was left in a paddock with a severely infected hoof and rescued in the nick of time! He is fully recovered now and living his best life.

    Tangara

Tangara is a rescued Kosciuszko brumby. She adores human attention as she was raised by hand and it will be hard not to fall in love with her at first sight. She is inquisitive and curious, has a knack for turning up where you least expect her, loves carrots/liquorice and likes to stir up trouble with her older paddock brothers Teddy, Zilloh and Phoenix.

    Teddy

A rescue horse saved from the racetrack. Mr Ted is the big boss and is totally focused on his next meal. He is adored by his vet and farrier for being a total gentleman and truly stoic by nature.

    Juniper

Feisty little Koolie pup. Sister to Jasper and a total mischief maker!

    Jasper

Aka Mr Kissy Fish. A total smoocher and cuddle bug. Brother to Juniper.
