    Description

This is an ecological farm project which was launched in 2011. The farm is located in the northwest part of Turkey about 2 hours away from Istanbul by bus near a village called Küçükyoncalı (3kms) in an oak forest. The project, which started with the aim of growing organic walnuts, has changed direction with the widening of the interests of individuals and contributions of different trainings. A system based on permaculture principles is currently being created. It is a farm that generates its own electricity, where natural housing was built on the basis of volunteering through training by experts. In 2019, besides the production of various vegetables in the garden, corn, barley and siyez (heirloom seeds from Anatolia) wheat production started. We breed free-range chicken, geese, duck and sheep. At certain intervals for two years we have been planting a canopy, an understory of fruit trees and bushes and shrubs and there are nearly 700 trees that are already turning into food forests. The purpose of the project is to host and feed the animals that live on the farm, the team that sustains and supports it, and the visitors who come to the farm for the purpose of participating in the trainings during the summer season. The surplus of products are sold in nearby village shops as barter. It is an animal friendly atmosphere with dogs and cats. We have been hosting volunteers from all over the world since four years.
We are a family of four all very much connected with nature and are trained in permaculture, farming and animals and have been gaining background and experience since more than ten years. Süleyman has been working in cardboard packaging since many years and he still continues two days a week. He is very much connected with the farm and especially skillful in building projects and maintaining. He is very creative about planning new ideas around the farm. Aylin is an artist who is into healing with plants and creating new recipies. Therefore growing our own food is her strong point. Both sons Sinan and Alp are living partly in Istanbul and at the farm. Sinan as a writer and musician loves reading and researching and has a developed sense of strategical planning. Alp always loves to learn more about nature, farming and animals. He is great at observing and creating solutions for the farm as a designer.
