    Description

Our homestead is home to Samantha, Marc-André and our toddler along with our team of 18 huskies. Our family's first language is French. We both work outside the home at least half the year and our son will be starting daycare soon. Dogsledding has been a hobby and passion of ours for the better part of 15 years, we love sharing our life with these dogs. We have 75 acres of poplar forest here where we have established a network of trails to run and train the dogs. We live in rural Manitoba in a log home, close enough to Winnipeg that we can get our groceries and take in the more metropolitan perks of the city such as the fantastic restaurants and far enough in the bush that we enjoy nature in peace and quiet. After years of working and living in Canada's far north we have a deep love for Canadian history and culture, we are raising our son in Richer Manitoba, a small francophone community.

    Help

Our family life is very busy, we hope to grow an abundant veggie garden to teach our son about where our food comes from, in summer we need help maintaining the garden and with some yard work and landscaping. We could use an extra set of hands to help care for our dogs with tasks such as yard clean up. This summer the main projects will be rebuilding doghouses and resurfacing many of their pens.
The Workawayer would have the opportunity to go dogsledding with us in the winter if interested.

This would be best suited for someone who enjoys and has experience with animals and working outdoors. The Workawayer can tend to grooming and spend lots of one on one time with the dogs in our shop space.

We hope to host someone who can join in our family activities, who is comfortable with children and who is interested in rural homestead life. This could include helping cook some meals, and some minimal childcare.

We are raising our son in French as a francophone family with French as a first language. We would have a preference for a Workawayer who is able to communicate in French, as our toddler son is quickly developing his verbal communication skills.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

We have a guest loft in our shop that is heated with wood stove and furnace, this space has a small sofa and bed, as well as wifi and a bathroom downstairs. The guest would have access to the house bathroom for showers and kitchen for all of their needs. Our home is a relatively small space that is the domain of our toddler so nap times are king, and require a light foot at these times. We would be happy to share dinner with the Workawayer and some lunches when we are home. Samantha keeps the coffee pot on in the house each morning, and most dinners are home cooked and healthy!

We are located 45 minutes from downtown Winnipeg and 30 minutes from Steinbach. East of us is Whiteshell Provincial park, about 45 minutes. We are on the road usually a couple times a week running errands and will be happy to coordinate with Workawayers so they can see the sights!
