    Description

We are a small, private, growing farmstead in the Cariboo area of British Columbia. We have chickens, turkeys,
ducks, sheep, rabbits. And 4 indoor, outdoor dogs. Gardens. May, June and July are baby times, as in baby chicks, lambs, turkeys. Its a great place to learn about animal husbandry. We also have 4 very friendly house dogs that love people. Nothing we produce is sold. Five minute walk from the lake. Quads, rowboat, runabout available if experienced. We have plenty of space for campers or trailers to boon dock, a small camper is available and a cozy, but very rustic, cabin with new wood stove that that could be available with a little help to renovate to make it even better to live in.
Please note, we are very rural, in the bush and quite rustic compared to what you may be used to. It's definitely not a resort!

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

Go hunting or fishing, in season. Learn about raising your own meat, eggs, vegetables and so on. Learn how to mill your own logs into lumber, build sheds, dog houses, rabbit hutches etc. Preparing gardens and greenhouse for spring planting. Preserving foods by smoking, canning and drying.

  • Help

    Help

Help would include everything mentioned above plus whatever may be required to keep the farm, garden/greenhouse and animals and so on running smoothly. Also firewood collection, bucking and splitting wood, garden, greenhouse set up and a greenhouse that has been fallow for 4 years so needs some cleanup and readying for next spring, guest cabin cleanup and renovation among other building projects. We have a working wood mill so mill and use our own logs. These will differ depending on the season. If you have any experience with farm stuff that would be great. Message me with any and all skills you may have.
PLEASE NOTE: there is sometimes heavy work involved including packing bags of feed, chopping trees/wood, building fences or shelters, tearing down etc. Plus mucking out chicken coops and moving dirt, clearing brush, and so on. So you need to be healthy and in reasonably good shape.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

We have a small camperette for use mostly just for sleeping, and the aforementioned cabin. Plus some lovely spots to boondock your camper van, camper or trailer. Meals are in the house, picnic lunches could be provided. Specialty foods for specialty diets, tobacco etc and alcohol would be your responsibility, but we can learn to cook your specialty food if you teach us. Although we could accommodate a vegetarian, we are meat eaters and meals generally include meat, either from our own or a local farm or from hunting or fishing. We could accept singles or couples and possibly a small family. We have some lovely spots available for privacy. And 2 outhouses and a full bathroom, washer and dryer in a separate building. We do value our privacy so would encourage you to go for after dinner walks, fishing or read or whatever in your accommodations after dinner unless we are doing something special. There is a lake within 5 minutes walk from the property and a boat available for fishing as well as a rowboat and kayak. Plus quads and side by side. And a bicycle.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

This is a private farmstead, not a business. There is lots to do if you are an avid hiker, biker, climber or just want to sight see. We are fairly isolated so you need to be self reliant. As mentioned before, there is a lake within 5 minutes walking distance for fishing (boat available) and even a small beach about ½ a kilometer away for swimming. If you have a vehicle there is 100 mile house, which is an hour away, there are shops and restaurants and pubs to explore. A farmer's market each Friday during summer months and crafters market as well. If you want a bigger town, Kamloops is 2 hours away one way and Williams lake is 2 hours away the other way. We live simply at our farm going to town mostly just once a month or sometimes an extra trip. There is a small corner store 20 minutes from us. We have limited internet so you can stay in touch. But no cell service service unfortunately. We encourage you to download movies, music etc for evenings and downtime. We are in a small community that is friendly but mostly keeps to themselves.
Again, and very important, we have animals and dogs. If you have allergies to them or to hay and straw, or any fears around animals, this may not be the place for you for your own health. Please contact for more information.

Please note, a minimum 2 week stay is preferable, but longer is better.
