    Description

    Hello there!

Easter 2026: help in the garden needed! Planting, weeding, constructing!

Me, Lea, and my husband Bruno are renovating the piece of land we recently bought close to Lisbon.
The property was abandoned with 1500 sqm of land, and we are slowly rebuilding it following sustainable solutions such as an off-the-grid self-sustained system, permaculture design for the garden, agroforestry, synthropic agricultureetc. We build everything ourselves with second-hand materials, recycle and compost almost everything, and we have 1 dog, a cat, and fish!! :) Soon, we will have chickens.
We also do capoeira and go surfing!
I am a researcher and I work remotely so there is space to accommodate the needs of who work remotely.

The property is 20 mins from Lisbon by car and there is a bus in front of the house that goes directly to Lisbon. Transports to go around the area (eg. beaches) are not the best so having a car can be very useful.
We like proactive, curious and handy peeps from all over the world. Before settling here, we travelled the globe, so we would love to bring the world to our home :) ...but no fascism, no Zionism, no Brexit, no misogyny, trump supporters and all that shit... Yes to diversity, peace, freedom and love!
We speak English, Italian, Spanish, French and Portuguese and I am really keen on learning new ones :)

Kids are welcome! But this is more of an enchanted land like Alice in Wonderland that kids loooove, than city-kids-safe-proof place. They may trip over pieces of wood, climb stuff or find tools.

    If you stay with us:
    - We offer food and accommodation
    - We request 20 hours per week of help, which can be flexibly organised around our schedules.
-You can stay in our detached containers, where we usually host guests or in your van, parked inside with access to all facilities and electricity.
    - We have a laundry room you can use, together with all the other shared spaces (eg. kitchen)
    - The house is Vegetarian!
    - Dogs are welcome but they must be ok with cats.
    - If you are very young (25 or under), we prefer you come at least in pairs, as you will have a peer to go around and do stuff for young people ahahah.

In your request please state very clearly state the dates (from when to when), whether you have a vehicle or how do you intend to go around, what will be your other activities besides working with us (sightseeing, partying in Lisbon, remote working, beach, sport.. etc..). Since we often have a lot of people here, this is very important for us to accommodate all needs (eg. if the house is full and you need to remote working, there might not be a desk space!).

If you do not clearly state these things at the beginning of your message, we will discard it straight away as we receive tonnes of messages!!!

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

We would like to open our house to the highest possible degree of cultural diversity to be learn along the way with you.
We offer incredible stories from our travels... Me and Bruno met in Australia; he is Portuguese and I am Italian, and that is just the beginning :)
On the work side, Bruno is an engineer and he projects and builds everything here. There is a lot to learn.
I am a researcher at the University of Nottingham (UK) and I work on climate change and environmental law and a former hippy traveler who worked in several farms.
Plus, we make a lot of our own food, including our own pasta!
We would love to share and exchange all this!

20 hours of work per week in the garden or building shit (negotiable depending on the skill levels)
Our garden is organised in veggie patches around the trees (guilded trees), where we use permaculture methods and companion planting.
The list of activities includes basically every task in the garden, from weeding to planting to nursing to cleaning, seasonal activities and help in the project of the moment! These may require building constructions and brute force.
We also have various vermicomposts :)

The property is behind the lagoa de Albufeira, in a very beautiful corner South of Lisbon.
Detached comfortable container on the land.
    Bathroom and Kitchen are shared.
We also have an outdoor shower that is very popular in hot summer days.
If you want, you can park your van inside as well.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

There is a ton of things to do around here, from amazing beaches, surfing, wind surfing on the lake, biking etc..
For the urban folk, you have exhibitions and beautiful tours in Lisbon and Setubal (we live in between the 2).. And of course all the night life that Lisbon, Setubal and Almada can offer.
It is better if you have a car. Otherwise we can sort something out.
