    COVID UPDATE
IN LINE WITH GOVERNMENT GUIDELINES WE ARE OBSERVING THE NEW LOCKDOWN RESTRICTIONS FROM 5th NOVEMBER FOR ONE MONTH. APPLICATIONS ARE STILL WELCOME FOR THE MONTHS INDICATED ON THE CALENDAR. OUR ABILITY TO OFFER A VISIT WILL DEPEND ON NATIONAL AND LOCAL RESTRICTIONS AS THEY ARE UPDATED.

We are a Buddhist community and charity based in a grade 2 listed building in South Derbyshire close to the Dales and Peak District. We have 38 acres of gardens and woodland, with a stream and woodland walk running the periphery. The environment is very beautiful, tranquil and restful and is perfect for meditation and contemplation.

The help required varies from cooking, working in our vegetarian World Peace cafe, gardening, decorating, maintenance, and helping with accommodation. We also have various projects that you could get involved in at particular times. On occasion, we may ask you to be flexible and volunteer on special events at the centre - for example a monthly meditation and meal event.

If you have particular skills we would love to know. Although the work is not always strenuous you will need to be reasonably fit and active to come on a volunteering visit.

In your free time, there are many ways to relax including enjoying the grounds and peace garden of the Meditation Centre. You can walk in beautiful countryside, there are a huge amount of National Trust properties and grounds to explore locally. The city of Derby is only a 15-minute walk to the bus and 20-minute ride. Being a central location in England it is very easy to access most major cities in a short time. Many of our working visitors travel into Nottingham or Birmingham on their days off.

As a volunteer, you are welcome to join any of the evening meditation classes or courses running. For those new to meditation, we run a drop-in 20-minute lunchtime meditation Monday-Saturday that would be a great introduction.

You are welcome to join us for the daily prayers we hold in our meditation room and on Sundays, we hold Prayers for World Peace, a meditation, talk and short prayers.

What we have to offer is varied and provides a perfect opportunity to experience the warm and friendly Buddhist way of life first hand.
