  • Description

My partner and I are managing a 320 cow organic dairy farm just 5min from a little town called Tirau.
We are only an 10min drive to the famous blue springs walk near putaruru and right next door to the historic okoroire pub with natural hot springs. Also 15min from matamata where you'll find hobbiton.
We have always had a special love for the outdoors and animals, so it made perfect sense to become farmers where we can enjoy the land, sun (and rain) and gorgeous scenery. We have a friendly, rambunctious working dog (Australian Cattle Dog) Petra who loves meeting and licking everyone in sight and a reserved ginger cat named Elmo. And of course LOTS of cows!

It would be advisable to have your own car if you prefer to have your independence to explore the area in more detail.

Good Kiwi hospitality! You will be treated like family with spare time off to explore the most beautiful parts of NZ.
Our farm borders the waihou river which flows all the way to Thames and out to sea. We have our own secret spots on the farm that are great for trout fishing, camping or even having a south African bbq (braii) on the open fire pit we made. Theres a private natural hot pool hidden in amonst the natives plus a diving board into the freezing river if you're game enough! We like to be as self sufficient as we can so if youre open to new experiences then we'd love to show and teach you anything from farming to making your own sausages!

Apart from ourselves, we would love for you to experience true Kiwi hospitality and see how we farm on the other side of the world.

Tasks shared, may include a little housekeeping/cooking/gardening and farm work. This may include tidying up of sheds, feeding calves, grubbing weeds, cleaning some parts of the dairy or assisting with repairs to fences. Milk harvesting will be part of your experience, depending on time and how many people we host at once.

This would definitely suit a traveler/backpacker who is looking for a bit of adventure with a taste for some Kiwi hospitality. You must be honest and be able to communicate! No experience needed, however, you should at least have a good sense of humor! Our biggest expectation from guests would be to respect our home, and animals as they are part of our family, but we also want you to feel comfortable and enjoy your stay!

We are a young couple who enjoy having fun and try to keep our life stress free as possible. Always up for a good laugh around the fire watching the sun go down. We love listening to music while working or cooking and of course learning new things!

You will need to organize your own transport for days off and sightseeing etc Applicants must be drug free, clean and tidy.
We can arrange to have you picked up from the closest bus stop which is Tirau. Bookings are cheaper made on-line. We are able to pick you up directly from there and bring you back to the farm 13 mins away by car.

NB: You must provide us with a copy of your HOLIDAY WORKING VISA prior to your arrival as this is a requirement by New Zealand Immigration Law and there will be no exceptions.
