    Description

Small Farm Animal Sanctuary, 50 KM South of Dunedin. Booking now for September. There are pigs, horses, sheep, chickens, dogs. Also a large garden, a few paddocks, all surrounded by farmlands. Very rural NZ
Large original farm house and grounds. For winter we have a good fire and we provide extra warm things for you when you in TV room or bedrooms. Beds have electric blankets.
We both work full time and need people to be here for animals through the day. Also we look for the skills we need for current projects. Please mention specific skills you have in request email.
At the moment focus is some paddock clean up to keep everything nice for the animals and lots of dog walking.
As with any household you join you are expected to help with jobs in the house so things are tidy and clean for all.
There is something here to suit most people's abilities. Sometimes we build a project around someone's skillset.
We prefer positive people who appreciate spending time with animals, quiet time in the country but can work well with other volunteers. Plenty of food, time off and entertainment! However, animals need someone around at all times so this needs to be considered. We do not count sitting in front of fire with the dogs to your hours of work - most call that fun! Be aware that because this is a Sanctuary for farm animals, only Vegan food here. We cater well for this lifestyle however do not provide special foods for anyone with allergies/gluten free. If you require special food please bring this for yourself. Wholesome food, plenty of it as well as baked treats. Sometimes Beer & Wine but not everyday.
Most importantly our home and property is a place where the animals happiness is the priority so please only apply if this aligns with your values and interests. Does not suit lethargic, skeptical or unmotivated people here.
If you want to have a short escape from the tourist trail, surrounded by animals, stay in an interesting old house and an opportunity to make a contribution on your travels, love to hear from you!
Need to know your time frame, how you are travelling and how you see yourself fitting in with our project. If you do not send this information I will not be spending lots of time on emails asking all the questions. If you are not already in NZ I do not book you as too many changes. Look up Milton on Map to see how it fits with your plans first please.
Booking now for October & November stays.

Learn a lot about animal care, basic garden maintenance including vege gardening. Wholesome cooking and baking if interested. I work in Science and Brent works in Corrections.
Because you will be needed to care for animals when we at work, opportunity to gain confidence in taking responsibility for a animal menagerie and household. Well within all sensible peoples abilities.

    Help

Need help with animals, gardens and household chores. Sometimes outdoors projects on the property or renovation inside. Please say if you have some specific practical skills.
Nothing too difficult but need people with initiative, maturity and who like being outdoors.
You will be working independently most of the time while we are at work so you need to be able to self-manage and be happy in own company and with other volunteers.
We like people to be here only if they understand that our project is mainly about giving these animals a good life and also fixing up and maintaining this very old home and large garden.

    Accommodation

Upstairs double bedroom with shared bathroom. Electric blankets on beds and plenty of bedding and extras in room. Unlimited wifi and Netflix.
I cook all the meals unless you want to help. Plenty of food for big appetites! Plant based meals as this is a Animal Sanctuary, not a farm.
We really try to run a tidy organized home, for the benefit of everyone so appreciate you trying to be tidy here too.
There are sometimes B&B Guests here too so everyone needs to fit in around this as this helps support the animals.
