Description
Back to nature, back to yourself... 🌞🌊🐎🌲
We are a small non-profit association based in Podhumlje, near Komiža, on the island of Vis, Croatia.
Our project is rooted in a simple way of living — close to nature, animals and natural rhythms. We create and host educational and experiential programs in nature, focused on awareness and personal development. Horses are a big part of our life and work, so our programs include helping with horses and horseback riding.
Podhumlje is a quiet rural area surrounded by Mediterranean landscapes, open skies and the sea nearby. Life here is calm and grounded, shaped by nature rather than schedules. Many people who come here feel more present, relaxed and connected.
You will enjoy this place if you like nature, meaningful hands-on tasks, learning through experience and being part of a small community. This is not a party or tourist place, but a space for presence, contribution and real exchange.
The project is run by Vedrana and Tina, together with a small circle of collaborators and volunteers who share similar values. Horses are an important and respected part of our daily life.

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
We love sharing our everyday life with Workawayers! Here, you can learn about helping with horses, eco-friendly living, natural cleaning and cosmetics, and sourdough bread baking—all things we practice daily.
We enjoy connecting through walks, meals, and creative activities, and we’re always excited to learn from our guests’ skills and cultures too. Every stay is a chance for mutual inspiration and fun!
Help
We are looking for Workawayers who enjoy hands-on tasks, being outdoors and contributing to a meaningful, nature-based project. Depending on your skills, interests and energy, you can help us in different ways.
At the moment, we especially need support with:
- Land clearing and fencing for horses
Helping to clear and maintain terrain used by horses. This is physical outdoor tasks, done step by step.
- Help with the vegetable garden and orchard
- Website creation and digital support
If you have experience with web design or content creation, you can help us build a new website for the association and support our online presence.
We usually help together, sharing tasks, learning from each other and adjusting the tasks to the group and daily rhythm. Skill exchange is a natural part of our project — everyone contributes what they know, and everyone learns something new along the way.
The exchange concept is based on volunteering, mutual respect and shared responsibility.

Accommodation
Workawayers will stay in a charming, traditional stone house, offering a clean and secure place to rest.
Meals are mostly vegetarian, but we can adapt if needed. You can either relax and enjoy the food we prepare, or join in cooking if you feel inspired — sharing the kitchen is part of the fun and cultural exchange. Access to the fridge is available, and no one has ever gone hungry here! :)
What else ...
Animals are very important to us! Besides our three horses, we have two dogs, two cats, and some chickens. There are a few simple rules to follow, like not giving human food to our animals — it helps keep them healthy and happy.
Vis is a stunning island to explore — perfect for swimming, hiking, and discovering its hidden corners. You can practically walk the whole island! There’s a local bus that runs occasionally, and we’re also happy to give you a ride to Vis town or Komiža if needed.
We love sharing our lifestyle and experiences, but we also need some quite time, so you will also have time to spend on your own, exploring natural rhythms of island life.
