    Description

    Hello!
I'm a retired truck driver. I grew up in the suburbs of a major city but really my life should have started in the country! Country girl at heart. My husband is still behind the wheel after 38 years in the industry, though theses days he mostly stays local. He comes from a dairy farm in a small rural community. We are proud grandparents to two very energetic grandsons, ages 2 1/2 and 5 1/2, who keep us active and bring endless joy to our lives.
we love rural living, our hobby farm, and being part of a close-knit community.
surrounded by rich history and culture, we enjoy exploring local historical sites and attending community events.
life on our farm is a little bit of everything. we raise beef cattle, chicken, and turkeys, while our horse and pony greet us each morning. A large vegetable garden helps keep our family fed, and we spend hours tending to it as well as our ever growing flower gardens. One of our favourite things about farm life is the peace and quiet- the songs of birds nesting in the mature trees around our 155 year old home and the simple beauty of country living.
Family , farming, and community are at the heart of everything we do

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

We like to attend local fairs, farmers markets. We live close to some major cities and are open to explore them.
We have a lots of knowledge in farming, cooking, animal care and hope you can learn something here as well as learning about different foods, different farming and gardening techniques. If you have skills in carpentry, we are always grateful and willing to learn too.

  • Help

    Help

-we always have gardening work to be done like weeding and harvesting vegetables and herbs. In the autumn we will be preserving and freezing .
-tending the animals, minor repairs on fencing, some small construction of new stalls,
-we will be putting hay up in our barn, it can be hard work but can also be fun if you encourage each other.
    - other possible volunteer tasks ,as I'm part of a committee that organizes a poker ride with horses for our local food banks . Food prep, set up of tents and tables, serving food, set of of prize tables...
    - when grandkids are here we may ask if you could entertain them while we tend to some farm chores but most of the time they help out in small ways and encourage the to help around the farm.
We would love if you have skills you can share as well.
most of the work can be done together.

    Accommodation

You will have your own clean room with a queen sized bed. The bathrooms are shared and laundry facilities as well.
I love cooking but sometimes you may be encouraged to cook or help in the kitchen. I myself am open and interested in learning different recipes and cooking. We are not vegan and not really interested in that.
We eat mostly from our farm or from local farms. That includes vegetables, beef, turkey chicken, lamb, pork, fish and eggs.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

When you have time off we can explore the community, visit local markets, if there is a local fair going on we can attend that.
This is a rural (farm country) area so there is no public transportation . i do have a bicycle you may borrow or just ask me to drive with in reason.
We are non smokers . There is no smoking in the house, barn or around the grandkids. All cigarettes butts have to be extinguished at the fire pit and never thrown on the ground or in reach of animals or children.

    Luna (4 years)

Meet Luna, our overly loving chocolate lab. She thinks everyone who comes, comes to see her. her brain is still a puppy but she is 4 years old. She does not believe in personal space but once you set your boundaries she will mostly respect them. She also is very amazing with our grandkids
