    Description

We are a couple in our 60s into wildlife conservation and live on a small rural property on the far south coast of NSW. We LOVE plants and have an extensive vegetable garden as well as Australian native gardens.

We are located just 3km from the beach (great surfing spots) and national parks (walking trails), and there are lots of little villages to explore within an hours drive - the main rural town of Moruya is 12 km (10mins drive) away and has two vibrant markets per week. Being in the country your own vehicle is essential to get about (note: the main highway into town is not safe for cyclists). There are popular mountain bike trails in State Forest within 30 minutes drive.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

We welcome the chance to share and exchange our experience of designing and building our home, and our passion and knowledge about Australian native plants. We also hope experienced vegetable garden enthusiasts might improve OUR knowledge on growing food ... always so much to learn.

We hope to share the occasional meal with you and can direct you to the friendly town markets & community events that might be happening during your stay. Being in the countryside, locals are very friendly and you'll quickly feel at home. There is lots to explore.

We are involved in a range of wildlife conservation activities and if you are into bird watching - this is the place! So far we have recorded 85 Australian native bird species on our property so bring your binoculars and set up under a tree.

    Help

Our extensive gardens seasonally needs extra TLC (mostly weeding & mulching). Our newly built solar passive strawbale house also needs a very good spring clean every so often - so help with the garden care and house cleaning would be much appreciated. You'll need to be reasonally fit for the gardening aspect. Some landscaping may also be going on.

If you would like to develop your skills on, or to learn about Australian native plants & gardening (including vegetable gardening) and energy efficient house design .... we can help you!

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

Accommodation is in our one bedroom (Q sized bed), 80m2, fully self contained cottage right next to the main house. It has everything - full kitchen, lounge & TV, reverse cycle airconditoner, laundry, bathroom with shower and toilet, internet access, nice big veranda. It is REALLY comfortable.

Our accommodation is best suited to a couple or solo traveller, although the daybed in the lounge is perfectly good as a second bed if two friends are travelling together. For safety reason this property is NOT suitable for children.

Workaway guests will be responsible for supplying their own food and doing their own cooking. However the cottage has a range of essentials in the pantry (just ask if its not in there), any vegetables in season & eggs from our chickens will be available and we would like to share the occasional meal.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

You will need your own car here as we are 12 kilometers out of a town and there is no public transport. You'll also want a car to go adventuring to the neighbouring villages.

This property is strictly no smoking.

We have a friendly Golden Retriever that will visit you in the cottage AND will go walkabout if you leave the yard gates open so a strictly 'close the gate' rule applies.

Stays of greater than 3 days up to 2 weeks would be ideal for us.
