Description
Hello, we are a Kiwi family of five.
Tyrone and Carla (mum and dad), Cooper (14), Zara (13) and Lila (11).
Over the past 15 years we have built a number of projects that bring people together through sport, food and community.
We run several ventures including Global Games, which hosts junior sports festivals across New Zealand, Pioneer Pie Co, an artisan pie company that celebrates great New Zealand ingredients and culture, and Without Waste, a sustainability company focused on reducing waste at events and helping organisations operate in a more environmentally responsible way.
Our family and business life is spread between Auckland and Queenstown. Queenstown is where a lot of our adventure and events take place, while Auckland is where some of our businesses are based and where we are currently looking for Workawayers to help.
Pioneer Pie Co operates from Albany on Auckland’s North Shore. It is a growing pie business focused on quality, craft and celebrating the best of New Zealand food culture. Everything we make is prepared fresh using great local ingredients.
Our work is very community focused. Global Games connects thousands of young people from across New Zealand and overseas through sport, while Without Waste focuses on sustainability and reducing waste at events and in businesses.
We enjoy meeting and hosting people from different parts of the world and hearing their stories. Many of the best ideas in life come from travel, cultural exchange and learning from others.
Most of the help we need is around the home and family. This includes things like helping with general cleaning and keeping the house tidy, helping with the kids from time to time, gardening, and pitching in with day to day life. From time to time there may also be opportunities to help with small projects connected to our businesses or events and at our pie shop.
In return we offer accommodation and all food, with the stay based in Campbells Bay on Auckland’s beautiful North Shore. It is a fantastic location close to the beach, great walking tracks, cafes and easy access into the city.
We generally ask for around 5 hours of help per day, 5 days per week. We try to keep things very flexible and relaxed, and we are happy to work hours and days in a way that also suits your own travel plans and adventures.
We are looking for positive, hardworking people who enjoy being part of a family environment, have a good attitude and are keen to experience New Zealand life.
While the Workaway role is based in Auckland, our wider projects span the country and there is always a lot happening.
If this sounds like something you’d enjoy, we’d love to hear from you.

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
We really enjoy the cultural exchange side of Workaway. Hosting people from different parts of the world is something we value, and we enjoy learning about other cultures, food, languages and ways of life.
As a family we live an active Kiwi lifestyle and enjoy spending time outdoors. Our home is based in Campbells Bay on Auckland’s North Shore, close to beautiful beaches, coastal walks, cafes and parks. It’s a great area to experience everyday New Zealand life.
Workawayers staying with us will experience family life in New Zealand and get to see how a busy Kiwi household operates. We often cook meals together, share stories, and enjoy conversations about travel, culture and life in different countries.
Through our businesses there are also opportunities to learn about how small businesses and community projects operate in New Zealand. Our projects include Global Games, which runs junior sports festivals, Pioneer Pie Co which celebrates great New Zealand food and ingredients, and Without Waste which focuses on sustainability and reducing waste at events.
Depending on timing, Workawayers may also see a little behind the scenes of these projects, which can be a really interesting way to understand New Zealand’s community and business culture.
For us, cultural exchange goes both ways. We enjoy learning from the people who stay with us just as much as they learn from us.
We hope Workawayers leave with great memories, new friendships and a genuine experience of life in New Zealand.
Projects involving children
This project could involve children. For more information see our guidelines and tips here.

Help
We are mainly looking for help around the home and family environment.
The biggest areas where Workawayers can help are keeping the house tidy and organised, helping with general cleaning, assisting with gardening, and helping look after the kids or helping with simple things around the house. We also need help in our pie store, so working there is part of the experience.
From time to time there may also be opportunities to help with some of our small business projects. This could include helping with simple tasks related to Pioneer Pie Co, assisting with event preparation for Global Games, or helping with small creative or organisational projects connected to our sustainability company Without Waste.
A lot also depends on the skill set of the people staying with us. Everyone brings different talents, and if you have particular skills such as cooking, photography, social media, design, gardening, DIY, organising, or event support, we are always happy to make use of those where it makes sense.
Most days the help is simple, practical and part of normal day to day life in a busy household. We aim to keep things relaxed and enjoyable rather than overly structured.
We generally ask for around 5 hours of help per day, 5 days per week, but we try to stay flexible and work the hours in a way that still allows plenty of time for exploring Auckland and enjoying your time in New Zealand.
We value people who are positive, proactive, tidy, and happy to pitch in where needed. In return we offer a welcoming family environment, great food, and a chance to experience life in one of the best parts of Auckland.

Accommodation
Workawayers will stay in our family home in Campbells Bay on Auckland’s North Shore.
We live in a large six bedroom house located right next to Centennial Park, a beautiful reserve with walking tracks, trees and open green space. It is a very peaceful and safe area.
You will have your own private double bedroom in the house, with a shared bathroom.
The location is fantastic. We are about a 10 minute walk to Campbells Bay Beach and close to cafes, shops, coastal walking tracks and public transport that connects easily to the rest of Auckland.
It’s a great place to relax, explore the outdoors and experience everyday life in one of Auckland’s best neighbourhoods.
All food and accommodation are included during your stay.
What else ...
Living in Campbells Bay means there is a lot to enjoy in your downtime.
We are just a short walk to the beach, which is great for swimming, relaxing, or going for a run along the coastline. Right next to our home is Centennial Park, a beautiful reserve with native bush tracks, perfect for walking, exploring, or just getting some fresh air.
Along the North Shore coastline there are some great spots to visit including Mairangi Bay, Takapuna and Milford, all offering beaches, cafes, restaurants and a bit of local buzz. Takapuna in particular is a great hub for shopping, food and a bit more happening.
For a slightly bigger adventure, you can head into the city using public transport or by ferry from Devonport, which gives you access to the waterfront, museums, shopping and nightlife.
Public transport is easy from here, with regular buses connecting the North Shore to the city and surrounding areas. Ubers are also widely available, and if timing works we are often happy to help with lifts or point you in the right direction.
If you enjoy the outdoors, beaches, walking tracks, cafes and a relaxed coastal lifestyle, this is one of the best places in Auckland to be based.
