Description
Good to know: please send us requests only in english language. Lilli is from germany, but Reynir is icelandic and doesn't speak german, in german written requests may end up unanswered and unseen from Lilli... :)
Our family needs help at daily things. We have four kids,11 years, 8 years, 6 years and 4 years old. We live in Mosfellsbær, a beautiful town in Iceland that is close to nature and more countrysided than most towns in Europe, but still close to Reykjavík. We don´t tolerate smoking inside the house or in front of the kids, and we only take workawayers with drivers license. Our kids are raised bilingual, Icelandic-German, so it wouldn't hurt to get someone here who speaks German, but that is not necessary.
Pet's: 1 dog, 1 cat
We had a few requests lately from people that want to help on a farm, so just to be clear: we are not living on a farm! We live in a house in a small town! No farm :)
If we come to an agreement and you want to stay with us for a certain amount of time, we trust this to not change. We are planning our time with you especially for the kids and plans on babysitting them. If you agree to stay with us but are not entirely sure of staying all the agreed time and you want to keep open to work requests from other families or farms, please tell us up front and don't change plans on a very short notice.
A few words for wannabe farmers:
There are a lot of Facebook groups that offer jobs on farms so you might want to check them out in addition to workaway.Types of help and learning opportunities

We live both very close to wild nature which is perfect for hiking, bicycle rides or jeep-tours, stuff like that, and also to the big capital city Reykjavík where you can go meet new people, to the cinema or shopping. Museums, whale watching, ice-skating... there is always plenty to do here, Icelanders are not easy to be bored!

Help
Driving: The 11 years old needs to be driven to school, or the mother, which means about 1 hour driving one way. This happens every other week.
Cleaning: vacuuming and wet cleaning the floors mostly, cleaning the toilets and (try) to keep it tidy. We created lists to help with the tasks and make it easier for you. We put up some daily tasks that you should attent to every day, and weekly tasks, where you chose one for every day. The cleaning process takes maybe 2 hours, if you are slow working 3 hours. When we are working and the kids are in school, you have plenty of uninterrupted time to tend to those cleaning tasks
Babysitting; the 4 years old might sometimes need to be brought or picked up from kindergarten. This means 5 minutes walking without the kids (with them, you know, it could take 30 minutes or so) occasionally one evening here or there to give us couple some us time :)
Cooking: Since all of us are getting a hot meal at work, school or kindergarten, in the week we usually only eat bread for dinner. That means that the workaway is taking care of cooking his own meal in the week. In the weekend we usually cook dinner.
Walking the dog every morning for about one hour. Great way to start the day ☺️
You will have your own room. However we really like you to be around us when you are not working and everyone is home. Some people tend to go to their room a lot and that might feel for us like living with a ghost. You only get to know us by spending time with us, and that's in the afternoon when everyone is home. We like to go swimming a lot, and you are always welcome to come along. You don't pay for that. When the weather is nice we take trips to the close nature, or to playgrounds. You are always welcome to join us.
The kids are still young and we don't want them to get too much screentime. Screens are everywhere these days, in kindergarten, school, at friends, kids run around with smartphones even at a very young age. So we want to ask you to not invite the kids on your phone or laptop or whatever you might bring.Languages

The guestroom is on the first floor, the rest of the family sleeps upstairs, but the daily life is mostly downstairs, which is basically one very big room that includes kitchen, living room, even a pool-table. A bathroom with a shower and the entrance. We also have a big garden. There is Wi-Fi available a computer as well. There is no TV in the house, we watch movies and shows upstairs in the little home cinema.
What else ...
The neighborhood is rich of kids and having a clean environment and acting respectful, like driving slow and being kind in general is expected. We raise our children open minded in any aspect, we are not religious, but respect any religion, sexuality or gender questions. Also we are not vegan, but we love good vegan food, so no problem there either. An open minded helper is very welcome. Iceland has a beautiful country side, hiking and stuff like that is highly recommended, there is a direct bus connection to the nearest cinema and sports place, also good connections to Reykjavík or further. Also the helper can borrow a bike.

We recommend them to everyone.
She stayed with us only for ten days and we wished that she could have stayed longer. She is very reliable and she took care of our home like it was her own. To the kids she was always nice and friendly and they really loved her.
