    Description

Hello! We are Elina and Juha, living in a beautiful cottage in Vääksy, a charming lakeside village in southern Finland. Our home is surrounded by nature, with a lovely garden, apple and plum trees, and peaceful forests and lakes nearby.

We enjoy gardening, spending time outdoors, and living close to nature. In autumn our apple trees produce a wonderful harvest, and we make fresh apple juice from the apples. We appreciate a simple, relaxed lifestyle and enjoy sharing Finnish cottage life with visitors.

Vääksy is one of the most charming villages in the Finnish Lakeland, located only about 25 minutes from the city of Lahti. The historic Vääksy Canal, cosy cafés, local restaurants, small boutiques and cultural events make the village a lovely place to explore.

Lahti offers an even wider range of cultural experiences, including concerts, theatres, museums, exhibitions and festivals throughout the year. For anyone who enjoys an active lifestyle, the area is ideal. You can walk or cycle through beautiful forests, swim in crystal-clear lakes, go kayaking or paddleboarding on Lake Päijänne, and explore the unique Salpausselkä UNESCO Global Geopark.

September is one of the most beautiful times of the year in Finland. The apple harvest is at its peak, the forests begin to glow with autumn colours, and the air is fresh and crisp. It is a wonderful season for hiking, cycling and enjoying the peaceful lakeside scenery. During September, local harvest events and markets celebrate the season with Finnish food, crafts and traditions.

This autumn we will be working in Finnish Lapland, so we are looking for a trustworthy, independent, and nature-loving person or couple to stay at the cottage during September. In exchange for free accommodation, I would appreciate help with caring for the garden, harvesting the apples, making apple juice, and doing a few light outdoor tasks.

The cottage is a peaceful place where you can enjoy Finnish nature, go for walks, work remotely, or simply relax. If you enjoy gardening, fresh air, and experiencing authentic Finnish countryside life, I would be delighted to hear from you.

    No pets included.

You will stay in a charming, 100-year-old traditional Finnish log house that has been in my family for generations. The house is painted with the classic Finnish red paint and has a warm, authentic atmosphere full of history and character.

The house has two bedrooms, a cosy open-plan living room and kitchen, a bathroom with a shower and toilet, electric heating, and two fireplaces for extra comfort during the cooler autumn evenings.

The cottage is located in a quiet residential neighbourhood with a few detached houses and a small apartment building nearby. Despite being close to the village centre, the surroundings are peaceful and green.

The property has a large garden with apple trees, flowers and plenty of space to enjoy nature. It is only a short walk to the beautiful Vääksy Canal, situated between two large lakes, Vesijärvi and Päijänne. Shops, cafés, restaurants and other services are within easy walking or cycling distance, making it easy to enjoy both the tranquillity of the countryside and the convenience of the village.

The cottage is also easy to reach by public transport. The nearest bus stop is only about 100 metres from the house, with regular bus connections to Lahti. From Lahti’s railway station, there are frequent train services to Helsinki (about one hour), Tampere and other major Finnish cities. This makes it easy to explore Finland even without a car.
Having your own car is not essential, but it would be an advantage, especially for transporting apples and helping with the apple juice making. The cottage is easily accessible by public transport, so it is also possible to stay here without a car.

    Can host digital nomads

We have recently installed a high-speed fibre optic internet connection, making the cottage suitable for remote work. The work is flexible and not full-time, so there is plenty of time for your own projects, exploring the area or enjoying nature. Shops, cafés and public transport are all within walking distance.

There is space to park a car or a small camper van on the property. Please note that the entrance gate is quite narrow and the garden is mostly lawn, so large motorhomes are unfortunately not suitable.
