  • Description

Would you like the opportunity to live on a beautiful, green island surrounded by deep blue waters and the overshadowing of majestic Mount Rainier? Anderson Island is an inviting, stunning island offering incredible expansive views, a plethora of outdoor activities, and a close community of islanders. Our names are Sally and Bruce and we are retired medical professionals living on this dreamy island bluff overlooking Puget Sound in our recently remodeled home.

You can see the ferry from our home, shuttling islanders and visitors from island to mainland. The Pacific Northwest is a beautiful region of the United States with variable landscapes and lush greenery. We love it here. We enjoy hosting family travelers from all around the world, family members, and Bible study groups! Our Workaway helpers are encouraged to enjoy the experience of visiting our region, while returning the favor with help we truly need, to keep up with our property requirements. The island, itself, provides gentle to moderate hikes, swimming, bikes and walks. Our island volunteers are amazing, providing health and fire safety through the fire department, and building and maintaining a lovely farm museum with community gardens.

You will have privacy in our guest suite. Our patterns include sharing of most dinner meals, and managing our own breakfast and other meals. Evenings combine games, occasional movies together, and private time for rest and personal pursuits.

Flowers, herbs, and plants bloom in our backyard and attract hummingbirds; it is quite beautiful and peaceful! We would love to invite you into our home to enjoy this island with us. I'm sure our labradoodle, Ellie, would love to have company as well :).

We would love to share our culture with domestic and international travelers. We are active in our community so workawayers will have the opportunity to experience the culture of the island. We are active older adults who enjoy the company of all ages.
Guests will experience helping us develop and maintain our beautiful home and land.

  • Help

There is always something to do in our home! We are hoping to have guests who work diligently, truthfully, and with a smile. No particular skill is needed; we are happy to work with what you bring to a table.

Our lot is headed towards a low-maintenance future, but we have a considerable routine of outside maintenance, including a lovely garden that loves to produce weeds. Anderson Island has a historic farm maintained by volunteers; there is a possibility for participating in work there as well. We recently remodeled our home and welcome help with household cleaning and general maintenance. Mutual consideration of your personal time needs, and ours, will offer the best experience.

  • Accommodation

Our home has a spectacular waterfront high bank view of the Puget Sound and Cascade mountains, including the beautiful Mount Rainier! Our guests can enjoy living in a spectacular location while having privacy in a family room suite with a bedroom, bath, and living space. Twin beds in the bedroom and a queen wall bed in the living room provide flexibility. We recently remodeled our home and find it to be quite cozy with a great kitchen. We are clean people who value organization.

Access to bikes, kayaks, and golf clubs, and keyboard (electronic piano) are available for our guests. Lakes Josephine and Florence are super close to our home! If you would like time to explore beyond the island extensively, it would probably be better to stay for longer than a week. We enjoy eating healthy food, including homemade sourdough bread, and would love the opportunity to try your cuisine favorites :).

To arrive on Anderson Island, a ferry ride from Steilacoom is required through the beautiful Pudget Sound. It is an enjoyable 20" ride! On the mainland, public bus and train transportation is available. Our island is situated betwean Seattle, WA, and Portland, OR, two busy cities offering the city life experience. Pike Place Market is a major attraction of Seattle and is beloved by the public; living on Anderson in a reasonable proximity would enable fun traveling!

The Pacific Northwest is known for hikes and water sports, and our island has both, including clean fresh water swimming facilities. We will fit best with others who enjoy sharing details of their lives, in combination with quiet time for our study and rest. Meals are casual here, but we look forward to shared dinner time most evenings. Tidying up as we go adds to a calm environment, while we continue our active lives and frequent appointments on the mainland.
