Description
Our centre is scout & outdoor centre, opened for scouts and general public. We're thrilled to offer a possibility to volunteer, for people who want to experience a scout life, participate in programs, explore nature and to develop or new skills.
If you are interested in gaining experience as a youth worker, in idyllic location in the nature surrounded by the Slovenian largest lake, lake Bohinj, this is an excellent opportunity for you.
Our centre offers adventurous programs for scouts, groups and other individuals from all over the world. Since our centre has been growing over the years, we need some extra help from 15th May until 30th September. We will be delighted to host volunteers who are at least 18 years old.Types of help and learning opportunities

What will you gain or develop?
- Personal growth,
- experience in working as a youth worker
- communication skills in English, but you can also practice Slovene,
- new friends,
- a once in a lifetime experience,
- valuable learning and development opportunities.
We also issue a letter of recommendation for volunteers so they can include and prove this experience in their CV.
(We are also members of World Organization of the Scout Movement - WOSM.)Help
We have 4 permanent staff members in the centre and volunteers when needed. We would like to enhance our centre's vibe, so we are looking for foreign volunteers - scouts and non-scouts. We believe this interchange of experience is very positive for young people and also for our center.
We need volunteers' help with executing programs for guests, so you would get a lot of experience with working with people, mostly youth and their leaders. We will also need your help with general maintenance & cleaning around the camp. Some days are busier than others, but if you would like, you will have a lot of time to explore gorgeous nature, enjoy lake Bohinj and even go for a trip across Gorenjska area and Slovenia in general.
As a volunteer in our centre, you will:
- help in a team of volunteers, especially on adventurous programs that we offer,
- have a mentor,
- assist with basic operations of the centre (e.g. cleaning, maintenance of the camp),
- have an opportunity to develop lifelong friendships,
- have support from permanent staff in planning and delivering personal projects,
- have flexible days off as agreed.
Full board and lodging will be provided (in the chalet or in a tent). You will also be able to use free of charge WiFi, laundry facilities, linen, sports equipment (bikes, canoes) and participate in our adventurous programs.
What are we looking for?
- Commitment, diligence, desire for personal growth and progression,
- understanding of the scout way of life, values and customs (it is not obligated to be a scout!)
- knowledge of scouting games and programs is a plus, but not a must!Languages spoken

WHAT CAN YOU DO IN YOUR FREE TIME?
1. Develop your personal project
If you have an idea that you would like to execute at our centre, talk to your mentor! If it will be possible, you will be able to start your own project with provided material resources.
2. Enjoy the largest Slovenian lake Bohinj
• Swimming: you can start your day with a quick dip into the lake or take a break in the afternoon on the beach!
• Hiking or biking around the lake (around 12km),
• Canoeing on the lake.
3. Hiking
• Viewpoints and Summits
Visit Triglav Seven Lakes valley, Vogel, Vogar, Rudnica, Vodnik Viewpoint, Studor …
Near Bohinj Scout Centre, there is also a cable car, which takes you to Vogel which is excellent starting point for shorter and longer hiking tours:
• Natural water attractions
Visit Lake Bohinj, Savica Waterfall, Suha Waterfall, the Sava Bohinjka River, Mostnica Gorge …
4. Biking
Visit nearby settlements, e.g. Ribčev Laz, Stara Fužina, Bohinjska Bela or take a day trip to visit Kranjska Gora or Bled!
5. Discover Slovenian cultural heritage and attractions around Bohinj Scout Centre
Some ideas: Pantz cableway, Museum of Alpine Dairy Farming, Toplar hayracks, Zois Manor with Clock Tower, Church of St. John the Baptist …
ALSO do not forget to check events in Bohinj!
6. Explore Slovenia
• Bled, old town with marvellous island on the Bled Lake, where you can eat traditional dessert “Bled cream cake”, in Slovenian called “Kremšnita”.
If you are adventurous type or you want to discover nature’s secret places, check what you can do in near Bled and in Vintgar gorge (e.g. canyoning, rafting, zipline, summer tobogganing …).
• Kranjska Gora, popular ski centre, where also FIS competition is held, it’s a great place to do some hiking.
• Ljubljana, capital of Slovenia, European green capital of 2016.
• Postojna, town with UNESCO World Heritage Site “Postojna Cave Park”, where you can explore unique Karst caves and Predjama Castle. There you can see very rare and endemic amphibian species Proteus (Proteus anguinus) in its natural habitat.
• Since Slovenia is quite small, yet picturesque country, you can also make a day trip to Slovenian coast and visit towns like Portorož or Piran.
GETTING AROUND BY BUS
If you want to come to our centre by bus, we recommend taking the bus to Bohinj Zlatorog, which is just about 300 meters away. You can also take the bus for trips around Slovenia. We recommend you to check schedules at Alpetour and Avtobusna Postaja Ljubljana (AP Ljubljana). You can pay for the ticket in advance via the internet or at the station. You can also pay to the driver in cash.
