    Description

    Hi!
IT IS ESSENTIAL TO EXPERIENCE WITH DOGS, CATS AND SPEAK a little Spanish!
🐾🐾 We are a community veterinary committed to the welfare of animals. Laura, our founder, came from Colombia and has seen the problem that there is in Huanchaco with animals, not only dogs and cats, but also with wild animals because due to environmental pollution more and more are dying on the beaches.
For this reason she decided to create a veterinary center that will be of help to those people who also care about animal welfare. The activities are focused on solving local problems such as the overpopulation of dogs and cats, little or no environmental education, and the death of marine animals.
We are located right in front of the sea, which gives you the possibility to volunteer in what you are passionate about but also have fun with the good vibes and energy that comes from living on the beach.
For people with a real passion for animal welfare, this is an opportunity to make a big difference in the lives of the animals, and it is immensely rewarding.
It is also a chance to get involved with the local community on this small and still quite little town. You will get to know everybody, and the longer you stay and the more you learn, the more fascinating it is.
At the moment we only have one employee who is in charge of the handling of the animals, her main functions are to receive the animals when they arrive and to check that they are in good health, she also helps us with the small environmental education talks that we give to people about basic animal care, and also to explain why wild animals are not pets.🐾🐾

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

Living in Peru is an adventure, here everything revolves around the culture, the delicious food and the good energy that the sea gives you. We are close to two important ruins of the pre-Inca culture, which allows you to learn a little more about Peruvian culture. You can also learn new skill sets and make new friends.

    Help

We are looking for inquisitive, positive people, who is sensitive to animals and nature, someone who is interested in contributing to the community with their work, but above all to generate small actions of change that help to improve the environment of Huanchaco.
We are a team of passionate people who love animals, we have devoted our lives to saving them and we are looking for like-minded people, who don't tolerate abuse and neglect, and who truly want to dedicate their time here to saving the world with us!
Our ideal volunteer is a team player, has great common sense, a good sense of humour, the ability to work without supervision, very flexible, with good energy and attitude, a happy smile on their face, willing to learn, help, listen and respect our rules.
We’re looking for mature people who are comfortable/familiar with communal living and working with a team of like-minded people.
We also encourage our volunteers to engage with the local people and children with regard to animal welfare issues.
The work is very varied and by no means boring. 😉 In this field of activity you need a lot of flexibility and spontaneity, as emergencies often throw all plans out of the window, but the work is highly rewarding.

I am really interested in improving my English, because even though I think I am fluent, I need to improve some things like grammar. On the other hand, I would love to learn French in a fun way and what better way than practicing with volunteers.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

We are located in a privileged area, if you like the big city and all that includes, Trujillo is only 20 minutes away from Huanchaco. Two of the most important ruins of the pre-Inca culture are super close and the sea is just in front.
We love animal lovers and team players, responsible, motivated people who can take initiative! We can’t always tell you exactly what to do, if you are done with your tasks - look around and go wherever you’re most needed! Our volunteers must be able to use their own initiative, we trust you to work together to make this place great!
Be willing to always put the animals first!
    Free time:
We are located next to one of the most beautiful and famous beaches in all of Peru and surrounded by dunes and pre-Inca cultural ruins to hike and learn about. During your free time, our volunteers can explore the neighbouring towns, socialise with the locals, visit ruins and museums, learn about the culture and traditions, as well as do activities such as surfing, paddle boarding, hiking and exploring the ecosystems, wildlife watching (birds, sea lions, etc.).
At home, the fundamental aspect is to love animals and respect them, we live around 24 hours surrounded by dogs and cats of different sizes and character, so a guest must accept paws, kisses and hairs everywhere!
This is a unique and special experience to be living on the beach and engaging with the local community - we welcome volunteers that are motivated by each element of this workaway experience and are excited to commit themselves to hard but rewarding tasks. We ask that volunteers commit at least 3 weeks to this experience as there is a fair bit of training involved. Get in touch if you feel like we make a good fit.
