    Description

    Hi! My name is Nelson and I live in Raposeira, Vila do Bispo, Algarve, with my family: wife, 2 daughters (15 and 13yo), a dog and 2 cats. I was born in Lagos, growing up by the beach, exploring the coastline and surfing whenever I could, always connected to this beautiful land. In 2008 after completing a Marine Sports Science degree I started stand up paddleboarding as well. When I'm not taking people on coastal adventures, I'm on the hunt for some good, fun waves to surf!

    I have a small company , based in Raposeira, on the Costa Vicentina Natural Park. And we operate mainly on the South coast between Sagres and Lagos, doing Coasteering (Cliff Jumping adventure tours) and SUP tours since 2013.

    This place was born out of the love for this amazing part of the world and the opportunity of sharing the sports of SUP and Coasteering in great scenery and in contact with nature. The company is mobile, our go to spots are between Sagres, Lagos and Aljezur. Our base is just a 5 minute drive from the main spots: praia da Ingrina and praia do Barranco. This stretch of coast has many sea caves and beautiful cliffs to jump off. In Lagos's praia da Dona Ana we make Sunrise SUP tours to the caves of Ponta da Piedade! And in Aljezur and Odeceixe we make the SUP river tours!

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

    You will meet people from everywhere in the world. The Algarve attracts millions of tourists each year, looking for the beautiful beaches, caves, culture, food, etc. There's an opportunity to learn about different cultures, as we meet the clients and take them on some amazing adventures.

    You will learn a lot about Portugal and the southwest region of the Algarve. With Nelson as your trainer, born and raised in the area, he will teach you all about the local costumes and traditions, all the sea life that are part of the ecosystem where we do the tours, and that are part of the way of living as a means of subsistence.

    And of course you will gain invaluable knowledge as an assistant guide of Stand Up Paddleboarding and Coasteering! Which will also make you healthy and fit, while learning about the ocean, coastal dynamics, weather, geology, etc.

    I'm looking for someone who is physically fit and comfortable in the sea and around rocks/cliffs to be my Assistant Guide on the tours. If you love Nature, the ocean, the coastline and sharing memorable experiences with people from all around the world, then this job is for you!

    A typical day starts with the SUP Caves Tour and ends with our Coasteering session: for each activity we'll be getting equipment ready, meeting clients, driving clients to the beach, teaching and guiding the tour, taking photos and videos of the clients on tour and then cleaning/storing equipment at base.

    Other tasks (especially when there's no tours) include making sure the equipment is ready for next time; maintenance/repairs and cleaning of the equipment, garage, backyard and vans; pick ups/drop offs of clients between Lagos and Sagres. The odd job around the house (painting, clearing weeds, basic cement work).

    The diversity of work we do is amazing. We work mostly with small or large groups of friends looking for adventure, couples on active holidays, individuals backpacking through Europe, stag and hen groups, families with kids, school groups… We operate on a variety of locations around the beautiful coastline, depending on the day's conditions and the type of tour.

    Requirements:
    - Excellent client care skills;
    - Physically fit around the sea, beach, rocks and cliffs;
    - Good swimmer, paddler, climber;
    - Punctual, reliable, responsible, hardworking;
    - Driving Licence.

    Salary changes according to workload based on seasonality:
    - July and August (peak season): highest pay / less time off
    - June and September (less busy than peak): medium pay
    - April, May, October (very quiet season, staff training, more days off due to lack of clients and bad sea/weather conditions. Mostly maintenance work and a few tours, fewer daily hours): less pay / more time off

    Opportunity to earn client tip$.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

    We provide accommodation in Raposeira (included), 5 min drive from both South and West coasts: a private room in a shared 4 bedroom townhouse, above our garage and meeting point, with a large land behind with some fruit trees and lots of space. All bills included, but gas. Food is not included, but the house has a shared kitchen. Raposeira is 20 minutes from the popular touristic town of Lagos and 10 minutes from the surf town of Sagres, both accessible by bus. Also possible to park a campervan in the land.

    Raposeira is a quiet place, a small village perfect for relaxing, but close enough to the busier towns of Lagos and Sagres. It has 4 Cafés/Restaurants: 2 typical Portuguese and 2 international style - where most of the visitors hang out. One of them is The Den right next to our meeting point. There’s also a Spar where you can get groceries. Vila do Bispo is 2km away where you have Lidl and Aldi, a local market, pharmacy, banks, etc.
