Description
I'm a long-time Alaskan with experience around most of the state. I'm also a single parent of five with one still at home. Over the years we've hosted thousands of guest from a few platforms, primarily CouchSurfing.com. Our home is comfortable and spacious, our expectations reasonable, our attitude laid-back.
Types of help and learning opportunities
Gardening
DIY and building projects
Help around the house
General Maintenance
Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
Opportunities exist all summer to hook up with fellow travelers, share stories in many languages, and make trips around the state. Anchorage is the center of Alaska in many ways, and people commonly use the town as a center point or home base for their wanderings. Alaska is more a natural experience than a cultural one and much of it takes effort to see. Providing a base for that effort with connection to fellow travelers is our primary offering.
Projects involving children
This project could involve children. For more information see our guidelines and tips here.
Help
We've done our summer work, winter is here now. Looking to catch up on some inside chores including light sheetrock repair, carpentry and related stuff. Could be some simple remodeling as well if the right help shows up. I'm thinking of establishing a kind of living garden environment on the property that provides opportunity for both work and learning. Will be starting on that this coming summer, the extent to be determined by who shows up to help.

We have an open kitchen, fully stocked, that anyone staying in the house is welcome to.What else ...
Half of the population of Alaska lives in Anchorage. The rest of Alaska is accessible from here. Makes for an interesting mix of perspectives.

I currently work remotely from an office in my home. The internet service we have is quite sufficient and I've hosted many a digital nomad over the years through Couchsurfing.com.

Well behaved pets are welcome! We have two cats in the home, and so any visiting pets must be compatible (not aggressive).
