    Description

I'm a long-time Alaskan with experience around most of the state. I'm also a single parent of five with one still at home. Over the years we've hosted thousands of guest from a few platforms, primarily CouchSurfing.com. Our home is comfortable and spacious, our expectations reasonable, our attitude laid-back.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

Opportunities exist all summer to hook up with fellow travelers, share stories in many languages, and make trips around the state. Anchorage is the center of Alaska in many ways, and people commonly use the town as a center point or home base for their wanderings. Alaska is more a natural experience than a cultural one and much of it takes effort to see. Providing a base for that effort with connection to fellow travelers is our primary offering.

    Help

We've done our summer work, winter is here now. Looking to catch up on some inside chores including light sheetrock repair, carpentry and related stuff. Could be some simple remodeling as well if the right help shows up. I'm thinking of establishing a kind of living garden environment on the property that provides opportunity for both work and learning. Will be starting on that this coming summer, the extent to be determined by who shows up to help.

Our whole house is an open environment. We have one large shared room set up with bunks to host travelers. We also have a large tent that can be set up for more privacy if desired.

We have an open kitchen, fully stocked, that anyone staying in the house is welcome to.

Well behaved pets are welcome! We have two cats in the home, and so any visiting pets must be compatible (not aggressive). We have a dog yard and dog door setup in the home which can accommodate visiting pets if needed. Less compatible pets traveling and staying in your private space (if you have your own camper/van) are welcome to use the yards as needed.
