My name is Carol and i moved to Central Portugal along with my 5 cats. I bought a small two storey villa and have converted the top floor into a self contained apartment. The villa is set in 1 acre of land in beautiful portuguese countryside.
Make portuguese friends meeting the locals at the cafe, listen to the amazing bird song and watch the local red kites put on aerial displays. Take a trip into the historic town of Tomar and go shopping, wander through the cobbled streets or sit people watching in one of the cafes. The town has an amazing history and was home to the Knights Templars, there is a big market every Friday where you can buy everything from an apple to a kitchen table.
I need help with my ongoing projects - the back of the house needs painting, bathroom needs floor laying, some internal painting and wallpaper hanging, fencing and pergolas to go up in the garden, etc etc. If someone can do any or all of these jobs then they will be very welcome.
I expect you to start at 9am (or earlier if you prefer) and will give you 3 meals a day plus tea and coffee, no extras, however you will have use of a self contained apartment so you can stock up with goodies as you wish! In your free time, wander through the fig, olive, orange, lemon and pomegranate trees with Milo the dog (one of the village street dogs who decided to move in) or sit under the grape vines with one of the cats on your lap!
The house is situated in a small village where amenities and public transport are very limited so you will need to be happy with peaceful nights rather than nightclubbing!
Self contained apartment, double bedroom with en suite shower room, single room, kitchen with hob, microwave, fridge/freezer, lounge and diner. Own courtyard garden. Tv and dvd player
Train journey from Lisbon airport to Tomar takes around 2 hours and costs 9 euros. Local bus or taxi service, sightseeing tours available in the town. There is a river beach about 15 minutes away ideal for swimming or canoeing on hot summer afternoons.
if you like the quiet life this is the perfect place, the village is very peaceful and apart from bird song and a couple of dogs barking now and again theres very little noise. Thankfully, most of the local dogs go to bed early so you can enjoy a glass of wine in peace watching the stars!
This is a no smoking apartment and site. Due to the high fire risk during the summer months bonfires are banned between may and october. Im also a vegetarian so would prefer non meat eaters if possible!
