  • Description

We are looking someone to either help to do some pending stuff outside or to help taking care of our toddler (Leire) FROM THE 2ND HALF OF MARCH.

We are Lara & Igor, two alternative guys + Leire (1 year 4 months), who are living isolated at the countryside because we got tired of living in the city, we prefer a quiet place and we like nature.

We also like travelling and getting into other cultures, listening a so wide range of music and cinema, etc. To get fun we enjoy playing games with others, socalize, etc. Lara enjoys watching series and films, cooking, exercise and reading books. Igor is more of music and games. So we have the range of entretainment pretty complete hehe. We also like hiking and sometimes we do a walkie around the house with our cat Nora who loves to walk around with us :)

About our family project, we have been parents a year ago. Due to this new situation for us, we are short of time, so we need help with some stuff (please check the help section). Please, if you are allergic, be aware you are sharing the accomodation with Katana and Nora, our cat friends.

Also be aware, that there won't be meat or fish at our home. We are totally isolated from eletric system for better and for worse, so due being solar-powered we have a fridge but not a freezer. It would spend a good portion of the battery. And yes, as you guessed, we are veggie.

About energy, there is something to take into account in winter: the solar panels are not enough power to keep the house warm with heaters, so the main way to heat the house is the fireplace, and the secondary one 2 gas heaters (1 for you and 1 for us). Please, keep in mind that for safety, the gas heater turns off automatically if using in a closed room for a while, so you cannot use it all the night along. So, since there is not a continuous heat source, the room may be cold at the end of the night. Anyways, here the temperature is not like in the north of Europe or northern America... in this zone, during the colder months (December to February) the min temperature is 3ºC (37,5 Fahrenheit degrees) and the max 14ºC (57 Fahrenheit degrees). That's also the reason most houses in Spain (and other Mediterranean countries) are not really prepared for cold as the houses in colder places.

    LGBT+ welcome :)

And we prefer non-smokers for a reason: We are in the middle of the mountain and here landscape is dry (as it is in most of Spain). So out of the house is forbidden to smoke by law to avoid fires, while into the house is also not possible due our baby (Leire).

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

Do you want a peaceful stay in touch with nature? Do you want to immerse in Spanish or Valencian / Catalan cultures? Do you want to do hiking through Spanish unknown countryside or visit towns and the coast? Do you just want to have a good time and meet new friends? This could be your choice in either any of these cases.

About language and culture, we would like to fix our broken English, and if you want to learn or practise, we also speak Spanish and Valencian-Catalan. We are also open to learn a bit of your language if your motherlanguage is another, and we are happy to share cultures, gastronomy, music, get fun, etc. Valencian Community is the region of paella so you will be able to taste the REAL PAELLA, the tasty Orxata drink, the not so healthy Carajillo, or Calçots typical from Catalonia. Here our mother language is Valencian, a Catalan dialect, but we also speak Spanish. So people in this zone speak both Valencian Catalan and Spanish as natives.

  • Help

We ask an about 3 hours of work for food and a room to sleep. 4 hours if you want us to take to visit places at weekends.

You can either help Igor outside or help with our toddler (Leire). You can only help with Leire, or only with the outside tasks, or with both (half time babysitting, the other half with the other tasks). This is up to you depending the kind of tasks you are more comfortable. Any kind of help is welcome!

    Tasks babysitting:

    - Keep an eye on Leire while we are either busy or Lara is resting.
    - Going for a walk with Leire.
    - Helping calm the baby to sleep.
    - Creative play.
    - Helping Leire to learn walking (she is starting now!).
    - Helping Lara cooking and with the house tasks.
    - Maybe a bit of maintenance of a small vegetable garden.

    Tasks outside:

    - Chop wood for the next winter.
    - Finish adding wooden parquet to half part of the house to isolate from humidity at raining days.
    - Help doing the prune.
    - Remove weeds.
    - Some carpentry.
    - Building a small roof for the chimney.
    - Adding a concrete layer at a side of the house
    - Fixing some stuff of the old caravan.
    - The bicycle works but the gear needs to be adjusted to work better.
    - Maybe painting indoor.
    - Maybe a bit of maintenance of a small vegetable garden.

You don't need experience with these tasks or using tools. You don't either need to be strong. But please, don't be afraid about using tools! If you don't know how to use some tool, Igor will show you, as well as some safety tips.

  • Accommodation

Our home is isolated in the countryside. There is a fence around the terrain but we can leave the door open for whenever you want to go out for a walk around. Sometimes you will see someone working some field near the house, and once in a while some car or some cyclist will pass by the track near the house. Closest town is Costur, of only 500 inhabitants. So expect to stay in a quiet place for better and for worse :)

Despite being isolated, WiFi works ok here and we have both Netflix and HBO accounts which works good and
you can freely use. There is also a bunch of books in spanish. Since the house is not big, this is unavoidable at the end: we can offer you entertainment with more interaction... We are always open to conversations, not only during meals, but whenever you want. There is also a collection of board games and a good variety of traditional couch multiplayer videogames... Yay! By the way, if you contact with us and write the word "pinneapple", we will know you are reading at least most of the description... This helps for example, to know that you are really interested, in case of more workawayers writting us.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

You are free about how to spend your spare time... If you want to sightseeing and you come with your own car, you can travel by your own and just use our home as the place to sleep, or you can spend the time with us if you feel right with it.

If you are interested in going out with us:

If you do 4 hours instead of 3, at weekends we can adapt to what you prefer: revisit the beautiful corners of our province as small typical towns, walk through the mountains in search of your inner self. Any plan in which we can take our baby with us, seems fine to us!

If you prefer to visit places by your own, other common visits at our province and the times by car:

The picturesque Vilafames at about half hour. The artistic Fanzara, and Benicassim at the coastside, both at about 40 minutes (to different directions). Some nice small towns as Xodos (40 minutes) and Ares del Maestre (55 minutes). The natural parks of Sierra Espadan and Desert de les Palmes (about 50 minutes). The big city of Valencia and Penyagolosa natural park, both at 1 hour (to different directions). And at 1 hour 15 minutes, the touristic towns of Peñiscola and Morella.

If you are not coming by car, we can also take you to the station of Castellon where you can take a train either to Benicassim, Valencia or Peniscola.

    Can host digital nomads

Yes, why not! Even if we are a bit isolated, we installed an antenna for a decent WiFi connection. After testing the speed, it shows 10-15Mb/s download and 5-10Mb/s upload. In terms of use: for videocalls is not a so good connection and some days it works really bad (specially in storm days, I don't know why), but for the rest of uses internet works properly. So if you are a digital nomad often doing videocalls and you have not enough patience, think it twice!
