    Description

We are a couple of retired teachers living in the countryside in the Marais Poitevin, a very distinctive area, close to La Rochelle (30 km). The Marais Poitevin is known for his waterways, birds (resident and migrating) and other wildlife, as well as old villages and historic places .The Marais has been a natural regional park since more than 30 years.

We live in a traditional country house with a large garden and an orchard. We have two lovely cats. The house has a swimming pool that we enjoy from Spring to Autumn. The environment is peaceful and surrounded by fields and trees. There is a river/canal 200 m from the house where fishing is allowed. There are 6 bikes (2 are electric) for wandering around the Marais.

As we have been living in the area for a long time, we perfectly know the region. Robert was a teacher in French, history and geography, and loves telling stories, recounting books and writing.
We also know well many areas of France as our family has lived in several regions (Picardie, Champagne, Dordogne, Bretagne), including in French oversea territories (Wallis, Nouvelle-Calédonie) .
We like travelling in Europe and elsewhere, always enjoying meeting people and new cultures.

We actively participate in local life, write articles in a local magazine, and are locally involved in several groups. We live in a very rural and unique area.

We have loved singing for many years, and we currently sing in a small choir which gives public concerts in the area.
We regularly go to the theater and attend concerts and various cultural events in La Rochelle, a beautiful place. We will be happy to show this place and the Marais Poitevin to our guests.
We both speak English rather well, in the past, we coordinated local conversation and welcoming groups. We have had British friends for years.
Marie-Claude has a passion for cooking, and she is very skilled and knowledgeable on the subject. She used to be teacher in maths, physics and music.

There are many subjects we are curious of. As retired teachers and parents and grand-parents, we always love to share our experiences to younger folks. Our children and grandchildren regularly visit and stay with us.
Always interested about societal and political matters in our country and in the world, we love to discuss any subject. Finally, we like to play games, biking, walking, gardening,
For us, any activity we will do together will be an opportunity to share our experiences and to learn about our guests, their culture and their projects.
