    Description

We are a family of four, 2 adults and 2 children (our little girl of 4 years old and our young man who is 2 years old) and an ever growing extended family of animals!
It started with a rescue dog, and then another until we now have 3, then a few chickens and now we have quite a flock, who when then joined by 2 Spanish milk goats and then 2 Nigerian dwarf goats, are latest members!

We are in the process of renovating our small finca as well as wanting to start producing as much of our own food as possible, all while looking after the children and animals.

So many plans and not enough hands!

We are located in a rural area, but still only 30 minutes from the hectic life of Las Americas.
Tenerife is a small island, but it doesn't take long to become an islander and think a 30 minute drive is "just too far" :D

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

With 2 small children and lots of animals our lives revolve around our finca.
This is a great opportunity to learn about poultry and small livestock, including animal husbandry, we don't run a farm in any way, they are just our pets, but there is enough work to spend some time with the animals most days.

Our DIY projects are currently taking the forefront and where we need the most help, we have dozens of projects running, and would love to finish some of them :P
No need to be a "pro", but a willingness to get stuck in and "have a go" with enthusiasm is important.

Previous experience is a bonus but not essential as we can learn together.

If you have knowledge / experience of growing your own food we would love to hear from you as this is our next big project!

Our eldest attends the local Spanish school, where we chat to the other parents.
She is also learning to swim at the local leisure centre, which you are more than welcome to join us during these lessons.
And also she goes to a dancing class once a week in the nearby community hall.

We have carried out quite a lot of renovation so far, and have learned "on the job" so are happy to share what we learned .

Until last year we used to operate the largest dive centre in Europe and have a love of meeting people from all around the world and sharing our experiences and stories and love to learn from all cultures.

We are looking for people who are handymen (or women!) , DIY-ers or gardeners, and looking for an exchange to stay on the beautiful island of Tenerife.

No need to be a "pro", but a willingness to get stuck in and "have a go" with enthusiasm is important.

Previous experience is a bonus but not essential as we can learn together.

The commitment involves helping ~ 4 hours a day, 5 days a week. You will always have two consecutive days off.

Our children are always described as happy and outgoing and love new people and animals.

We speak English in the house, but it is a tri-lingual house with the kids learning Spanish and I am Dutch with my English husband, so conversational English is a must.

We have limited social time, (I mean, we have young kids so... :-]) and we are looking for someone who is happy to be independent at times.

During the day we will be working with you a lot, you won't be expected to work by yourself and we dont treat people like slaves, we want to offer you an experience as is the purpose of workaway.

We are always busy, and need some help with DIY , renovation projects, and animal care, so that we can continue improving our finca and spending more time with our kids.

Our kids are around the finca lots and like to "help" but we are not particularly looking for babysitting or childcare, as one of the things we thrive for is to spend as much time with our kids as we can.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

As our finca is still being renovated we are offering accommodation in our glamping bell tent (20 square metres).
It has a "real" beds and mattresses, not camping gear, so is reasonably comfortable.
Located near the house with views of the ocean. Also, Tenerife is famous for its incredible astronomy, and in our area the is very little light pollution. The views of the stars here are truly breathtaking.

Regarding food, we are quite irregular, and ask you to prepare your own, but we are more than happy to take you shopping with us, and you'll have plenty of fridge and shelf space to store your food.

The tent has a fridge, microwave, small cooker and large gas BBQ.
