Description
Hi Traveler :)
I’m in the very first phase of creating a rural community space in southern Sicily, a personal, completely non-profit project, focused on cultural exchange and community building. It’s a place that welcome travelers like backpackers and campervan lifers, united by a love for nature, shared moments, and slow living. The vision is to grow this land step by step into a shared home for travellers, where we can live, create, and connect with the rhythms of the seasons.
Right now, it’s just the beginning: planting trees, setting up natural shaded areas, experimenting with outdoor living ideas, sharing moments with international friends and slowly shaping the space into something special. Some days there’s company, other days it’s just me enjoying the quiet and the sound of the wind.
The land is in a wild, peaceful spot just a few minutes’ walk from the sea, with open views and beautiful sunsets. We’re 15 minutes by car from Ortigia (Syracuse), and there’s a bus stop just 5 minutes away that goes directly to the city. Nearby surf spots come alive in autumn, winter, and spring, perfect for sea lovers. Summers are hot and calm, ideal for swimming and enjoying slow dinners under the stars.
For volunteers, I also offer the possibility to occasionally stay for free in my accommodation in Catania, a great way to visit the city, enjoy some urban life, and recharge after days in the countryside. This is completely optional and up to you.
I’m looking for curious, kind people who enjoy sharing meals, working with their hands, and cocreating: light gardening, cooking, creative outdoor arrangements, or simply bringing more life into this place. If you like the idea of helping to shape the roots of a future community, you’re very welcome here.Types of help and learning opportunities

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
This is a space for slowing down, reconnecting with nature, and sharing simple moments. I enjoy exchanging ideas about sustainable living, creativity, and digital tools, and I believe every volunteer brings a unique perspective that shapes this place.
The land is a short walk from the sea and close to historic cities like Syracuse and Catania. Bikes are available to explore nearby beaches, coastal spots, and small villages. We enjoy sea sports, so anyone into surfing, paddleboarding, or snorkeling is welcome to join.
From time to time, I also offer volunteers the possibility to stay for free in my accommodation in Catania, a great way to visit the city, enjoy some urban life, and recharge after days in the countryside. This is completely optional and up to each person.
We cook together, learn from each other, and experience the Sicilian slow lifestyle, from local markets to sunsets and unhurried conversations. Being close to both lively towns and peaceful countryside offers a genuine insight into Sicilian culture.Help
Help here is varied and flexible, it depends on the season, your skills, and what feels meaningful to you. Most of the tasks are light and outdoors, and we’ll often do things together.
You might help with:
- Garden tasks, planting, watering trees and herbs
- General outdoor upkeep (sweeping paths, removing weeds, raking leaves)
- Organising and tidying shared spaces
- Assisting in preparing meals and sharing food together
- Taking photos or videos to capture nature, daily life here, or creative momentsLanguages

Volunteers can stay in a big tent (provided) or in their own campervan, with access to outdoor facilities in a quiet, natural environment. The tent comes with a comfortable inflatable mattress and all the bedding needed, so you just need to bring yourself and your personal belongings. The space is off-grid and evolving, with basic infrastructure: compost toilet, shaded areas, and a shared outdoor kitchen.
There is no direct drinking water onsite, but clean water is available through prefilled tanks for cooking, washing, and hydration. We manage water carefully and ask volunteers to do the same.
As for food:
We organise meals together in a flexible way, depending on what we have, who’s around, and personal preferences. Sometimes we cook and eat together, sometimes people prepare their own meals. It’s a relaxed, collaborative approach, no pressure, just shared living.A little more information

Can host families
Can host digital nomads
Yes! One of the ideas here is to create shaded outdoor areas where people can work, read, or create in peace. If you’re a digital nomad with your own hotspot or SIM, this place is perfect for balancing slow living and focused remote work in nature. There's no Wi-Fi yet, but good 4G/5G signal depending on your provider.
Space for parking camper vans
Definitely. The land is spacious, flat and open, with areas where campervans or motorhomes can park comfortably in semi-shaded spots. Of course it’s not an official camping facility, it’s a welcoming place for vanlifers who enjoy freedom, nature, and community spirit.
Can possibly accept pets
Pets are very welcome, we love animals! It’s just important that they can stay calm and friendly around other animals and people.
How many Workawayers can stay?
