    Description

    Hi Traveler :)

I’m creating Origine Nomade, a rural community space in southern Sicily, currently in its very early stage. It’s an independent project focused on community building, welcoming travelers such as campervan lifers and backpackers who are drawn to nature, shared experiences, and a slower way of living.

The vision is to grow this land step by step into a shared home for travelers, where we can live, create, enjoy the sea, and reconnect with natural rhythms. A central part of the project is the orto (vegetable garden), which we are starting to develop as a living space for cultivation, learning, and daily connection with the land.

Right now, it’s just the beginning: planting trees, setting up natural shaded areas, experimenting with outdoor living, and slowly shaping the space through simple, hands-on work. Some days there are more people around, other days it’s quiet and minimal.

The land is located in a peaceful area, just a 10 minute walk from the sea. We are 15 minutes by car from Ortigia (Syracuse), and there is a bus stop 5 minutes away with a direct connection to the city. Nearby surf spots are active in autumn, winter, and spring, while summers are calm, ideal for swimming and slow evenings outdoors.

I’m looking for curious and grounded people who enjoy sharing meals, working with their hands, connecting with the territory, and contributing to a collective space. Activities can include light gardening, helping with the orto, cooking, or simple outdoor setups.

If you feel aligned with this kind of experience and want to be part of the early stages of something meaningful, you’re welcome.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

This is a space for slowing down, reconnecting with nature, and sharing simple moments. I enjoy exchanging ideas about sustainable living, creativity, and digital tools, and I believe every volunteer brings a unique perspective that shapes this place.

The land is a short walk from the sea and close to historic cities like Syracuse and Catania. Bikes are available to explore nearby beaches, coastal spots, and small villages. We enjoy sea sports, so anyone into surfing, paddleboarding, or snorkeling is welcome to join.

Slow life is in the project core annd experiencing the Sicilian slow lifestyle, from local markets to sunsets and unhurried conversations. Being close to both lively towns and peaceful countryside offers a genuine insight into Sicilian culture.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

Volunteers can stay in a tent (provided) or in their own campervan, with access to outdoor facilities in a quiet, natural environment. The tent comes with a comfortable inflatable mattress and all the bedding needed, so you just need to bring yourself and your personal belongings. The space is close to the sea, evolving, with basic infrastructure: compost toilet, shaded areas, solar panels for energy and a shared outdoor kitchen.

There is clean water is available through prefilled tanks for cooking, washing, and hydration. We manage water carefully and ask volunteers to do the same.

    As for food:
We provide groceries for dinner. We organise meals together in a flexible way, depending on what we have, who’s around, and personal preferences. Sometimes we cook and eat together, sometimes people prepare their own meals. It’s a relaxed, collaborative approach, no pressure, just shared living. There is drinking water available for you as well:)

    Can host digital nomads

Yes! One of the ideas here is to create shaded outdoor areas where people can work, read, or create in peace. If you’re a digital nomad with your own hotspot or SIM, this place is perfect for balancing slow living and focused remote work in nature. There's no Wi-Fi yet, but good 4G/5G signal depending on your provider.

    Space for parking camper vans

Founders live in a campervan in the land so we love having people with campers stay! The land is spacious, flat and open, with areas where campervans or motorhomes can park comfortably. Of course we don’t have camping facility, it’s a welcoming place for vanlifers who enjoy freedom, nature, and community spirit.

    Can possibly accept pets

Pets are very loved here. It’s just important that they can stay calm and friendly around other animals and people.
