Description
We are based on 185 acres in the Hunua Ranges, only 45 minutes South of Auckland City. We have enjoyed having volunteers stay with us for over 10 years now and have just recently discovered the workawayers website. We are always happy to host hard working fun easy going people for various tasks to do both on and off the farm. We run a mobile adventure activity business often traveling away for jobs for community events, teambuilding and school events which means you may get the opportunity to travel to new places around New Zealand meet the locals & taste their fare.
Our farm backs onto the stunning Hunua Regional Park & Falls with ARC walking tracks on our doorstep so there is plenty to see do and explore from our location.
We are working towards setting up the farm as a venue for corporate team building, weddings, camping, clamping cottages to showcase our beautiful & picturesque landscape & environment and ideally would like workawayers who are used to physically demanding work as we have lots of manual tasks to do on the farm including planting, fencing, gorse cutting (granddaddy gorse :) !) painting & planting etc..
Any body who has previous childcare, building or activity instructing/coaching experience/skills eg Camp America & is physically fit & active with english as their first language will get priority as that is what is most helpful to us.
We love meeting people from around the world and appreciate all the help they do for us on our farm and for our business. Thats why we like to show them around our country and ensure they have a great time getting to know the kiwi way of life and often offer our appreciation by the way of special trips to the hot pools, a fishing trip on our boat, a picnic at the top of the falls and the like.
We also have a couple of campsites next to the river on the farm that camper vans park & stay most nights in Summer "Top of the Falls Campsite". So also need assistance with check-ins, rubbish collection, cleaning and mowing and maintaining.
PS THE FILM WITHOUT A PADDLE WAS ACTUALLY FILMED ON THE BACK OF OUR FARM AT THE TOP OF THE HUNUA FALLS. The farm also backs onto 600,000 acres of virgin NZ bush which is absolutely stunning with access to multiple ARC Parks Walking tracks to dams as Hunua is one of Aucklands water catchment areas.
We are currently in the process of building our new "Grand Designs" home which has been 10 years in the planning. This is very exciting for us to see it emerge from the ground up. At the moment we need assistance with putting up a post & rail fence line up to the new house site and building a new dog kennel/run on the new house site for Mo & Arthur. (Grand Design Dog Kennel to match the house ?).
Accommodation at the moment is living with us in our farm cottage (very quaint) with your own bathroom (shared with other workawayers) and also a loft/barn type accommodation. NB: We normally only take a maximum of 3 workawayers at a time.
Meals - Shared with Geoff and Lynne (& other workawayers). Meals are a shared experience with Lynne cooking most nights and workawayers cooking 2 to 3 nights and assisting with prep and dishes.
Rosters - We normally do monthly rosters so you know if you are "wwoofing" on the farm or working with ROCKUP Adventure Activities. "Wwoof" days are normally breakfast at 8am and "wwoof" chores from 8.30am to 1.00 pm, Lunch and then the afternoons off to explore. We are also flexible if you want to go exploring we endeavour to give you 2 consecutive days off each week and then if you do a full "wwoof" day you can have a long weekend or if no ROCKUP work (which is our priority) you could go away and come back. With ROCKUP in our peak season most workayers get 2 to 3 days paid work per week.
At the moment we are looking for workawayers able to commit to a 3 month stay ie from October through till around the 22nd of December.

Help
We prefer workawayers who may also have experience working with children, coaching, camp America, Kayak or Ski Instructor or lifesaving, teaching etc... who also want to have the opportunity to travel & work in our adventure Business (for which we pay workawayer $ but must have a holiday working visa and speak english as their first language) and want to spend at least 3 weeks to 3 months with us as you become part of our family & we spend time training you. So if you have a positive attitude to life, are outgoing & friendly, sense of humor, able to get up early in the morning (sometimes we have 5.00 am starts but normally 8.00 am) physically strong & active and not afraid to get your hands dirty we would love to have you.
You can expect 3 good meals a day shared with the other helpers and host family and lots of fun time, we often like to end our day at the local hot springs or go for a swim in our mini waterfall on the farm.Languages spoken
English: Fluent
Accommodation
Cabin type accommodation with shared bathroom facilities. Meals & movies are normally shared with our family.
What else ...
We are 45 minutes from Auckland airport and you can catch a train into Auckland from Papakura which is 15 mins drive away from the farm so although when you are out here you can get lost in clean green New Zealand, you have very easy access to enjoy what is happening in the city with the Hunua Ranges Auckland Regional Park & Hunua Falls right on our doorstep with walking & cycling trails . Lots to do and see out here. Having a car would be a good idea, but most people dont and its never a problem we are happy to help you out where we can and drop/pick you up from the local transport stations. We are also only a 35 minute drive from Maraetai Beach or the Miranda Hot Springs.
