Description
I am lucky to live in one of the most beautiful places in the world: the wild Atlantic coast in south west Ireland. I have a small landholding that I am developing into a place of sustainable food production. There is a young orchard and vegetable patch, a beehive, and general garden. I'm looking for help with some general maintenance on the property. This may involve help in the garden, painting, maintaining outbuildings, helping construct chicken run, etc. The main work I'd like to get done this summer is building a deck / ramp outside a shed in the orchard.
I live alone but in a great community and enjoy welcoming family, friends and guests such as Wwoofers and travellers. The area around me is wild, rural, and beautiful. Activities in the district include hill walking, swimming, kayaking, cycling and, if you're so inclined, heading to our great local village inn for a pint of Guinness. There are a number of villages and towns nearby where you can enjoy smart shopping, restaurants, music and other enjoyable tourist activities. There are good bus services through the village which is a 5 minute drive away.

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
Ireland has a rich culture of storytelling, music, and legend. The landscape is imbued with the culture and has stories written into it. Just walking the hill and coastal trails gives you a deep sense of the history and stories embedded here. There is a strong community in my area with lots of socialising. The Beara peninsula is a stunningly beautiful location with so much to do. Music in local pubs is common plus many other activities that involve learning about the local stories and culture. There's always a bit of craic to be had.
I'm an Irish Australian who has been living in Beara for over six years. I'm keen on meeting travellers and learning about their lives and cultures.
I'm happy to share my love of ceramics, gardening, cooking and reading. I love meeting new people and I love sharing my space with good people.
Help
The current tasks I am seeking help for include painting my ceramics studio and building a new timber deck or ramp around a small garden shed. I plan to work collaboratively with workaways and I'm always keen to learn new skills while sharing my own. I'm also happy to accept help in managing the land and that includes tree maintenance, planting, mulching, weeding, etc.

I'm happy to help people improve their English language skills and am always happy to pick up some words in other languages.
Accommodation
I have a two level renovated Irish farmhouse with glorious views to the sea and mountains. Visitors have exclusive use of the upstairs two bedrooms - one is set up as a sitting room/study with a fold out bed - and a bathroom, while we will share the living spaces and kitchen. I eat a lot of vegetarian food and am happy to cater for omnivores and to cook together. I love learning about others' culinary skills and knowledge. I'll provide general food and if you want any specialist foods or alcohol please bring your own supplies.

What else ...
There are buses around the district from the village and I'll happily take you on what I call the "tour de Beara" while you're here to show you the sites. The buses are great for independent travel, however.

A little more information

Internet access

Limited internet access

We have pets

We are smokers

Can host families

Can host digital nomads
If you're a digital nomad I'd expect the help around the house to occur during the day, usually from about 10 am to 2 or 3 pm.

Space for parking camper vans
I have a level area that can be used for campers or tents. We can discuss options and whether it would work for both of us.

Can possibly accept pets
We would have to talk about whether any proposed pet visitor would be suitable. I have hens which would need to be safe.

How many Workawayers can stay?
More than two
