Description
We are a couple - Mathias and Siska (belgian) - living just over the border in France. Two years ago we bought a big piece of land that was neglected for a lot of years. When we visited the place for the first time we saw the potential of a foodforest-like project. So the last two years we started to trim trees, try to get the blackberries under control, we planted a mixed hedgde, a little orchard, starten an allotment and so on. We try to live by the permaculture principles. We are also interested in building with mud and clay. We did some workaway ourselves and it was such a nice experience to learn and exchange al sort of things that we really want to try it as a host this time.
We have rooms left in our house to stay but feel free to stay in a tent in the garden. In time we even want to build a yurt or a tinyhouse to welcome guests (also with building this we could use some help).Types of help and learning opportunities
Art ProjectsLanguage practiceHelp with Eco ProjectsGardeningDIY and building projectsFarmstay helpCultural exchange and learning opportunities
We have travelled a lot ourselves so lot's of stories to exchange. We still have a lot to learn ourselves but have a good basic knowledge on foodforests, permaculture and gardening.
Mathias is a technician so you can learn a lot from him.
Siska is more the plants and flowers lady. She's also a illustrator so learning to draw or making art together can also happen.
Our mother thong is Dutch but we also speak English and French. Mathias speaks also German and Siska a little Spanish.Projects involving children
This project could involve children. For more information see our guidelines and tips here.
Help
We have so many ideas but too few hands... And thats why we would like some help. Help could be all sorts of things, depending on the season and the projects we are doing.
Trimming trees, helping in the garden, harvesting, processing the harvest, walking the dog, help with a mud construction or clay oven, planting trees, help with construction, help thinking and designing our foodforest,...
So people with knowledge of plants, trees, gardening, permaculture, building, mudbuilding, construction, ... are very welcome. No knowledge but you love getting your hands dirty and love to be outside than you're also more than welcome. Exchanging ideas, dreams and stories around the campfire is also an important chore!Languages spoken

We can offer you your own room and bed in our house or a tent or hammock in our wild garden if you prefer.
In time we would like to build a yurt, tinyhouse or shed where guests can stay.
We are no vegetarians but love veggie and vegan food as well. We love to cook and learn new things!
A hot mail in the evening can be provided but during the day (during the week) we are at work so you would have to take care of your own meal. You could go 'shopping' in the garden or check the fridge. And also : the best bakery in town is just a 5min walk away and they sell a lot more than just bread. What else ...
Lots of nice villages (French en Belgium ones) and places are just a few kilometers away. We have bikes that you can borrow or we could even bring you somewhere with the car if needed.
We are situated in the very beautiful, hilly area: French Flanders, à la frontière!A little more information

I felt comfortable and welcomed from the very beginning. They both are very open, caring, relaxed, understanding, tolerant, and in general just very nice and friendly people. There wasn't even one single moment I felt treated rude or unfair. After all you can say Mathias and Siska are both just very… read more

Mathias and I had a very busy month so we were not much at home but she didn't mind. She even watched our house and our animals when we were away for the weekend.
