Description
Hi lovely Workawayers,
we are Steffi (German) & Luca (Italian), together with our wonderful and friendly animal family (2 dogs, 3 cats, and some horses). We live just north of Rome, in an area called Montegelato (which translates to “Icy Mountain”), named after the nearby waterfalls and their cold waters.
Our home is set on a beautiful piece of land with horse fields, woods, and the “icy” river running nearby. It’s truly a magical and peaceful place.
We are looking, on one side, preferably for a couple or two friends who can take care of our animals and look after the property when we are away. On the other side, when we are here, we would love someone (or a couple) who enjoys helping us develop and improve our farm; for example by renovating the chicken coop, working in the vegetable garden, helping in the woods, or creating a spiritual meeting area.
It’s important to us that you genuinely enjoy being around animals and spending time outdoors. We are looking for friendly, responsible, and attentive individuals who treat the land and the animals with love, care, and respect. If you are applying for the animal care & housekeeping role, experience with animals is essential; you should feel confident recognising when an animal may need attention or intervention.
Workawayers will have their own fully equipped 50 sqm guesthouse, offering privacy and comfort. In your free time, you can enjoy the quiet surroundings, explore the beautiful area rich in Etruscan history, visit the Eternal City of Rome, or cool off with a swim in the river during the hot summer months.
Please note that we live immersed in the countryside. We are not isolated, but the nearest town is 6 km away.
For the animal care & housekeeping position, if you don’t have a car, we will organise a grocery shopping trip upon your arrival so you can get everything you need. You’ll also have access to a bike to reach the nearest town or the bus stop.
If you love animals, nature, and tranquillity, you will truly enjoy staying here.

Help
Daily tasks (15h/week) - Animal care & housesitting - period mid July to mid September:
+ Feeding the cats and dogs;
+ Providing fresh water for all animals, including the horses;
+ Carrying out daily health checks to ensure all animals are doing well;
+ Spending quality time with the dogs;
+ Watering the garden.
We don’t need anyone to feed, clean, or ride the horses. They live on large pastures and manage themselves, with sufficient additional hay provided during the winter and dry summer months. However, a daily check of their health and water supply is required.
Daily tasks (25h/week)- Farm Projects – March to mid July & mid September to November:
+ Creating a summer vegetable garden – planning, planting, and harvesting;
+ Cleaning and maintaining our woodland;
+ Renovating and reinstalling our chicken coop;
+ Creating a spiritual meeting space, including building a sweat lodge.
