    Description

    !!!13 - 27 JULY!!! House sitting
My name is Rita (48), and I live since a little less than one year in the Magic Mountains of Portugal together with my son Leo (9) and our dog Lufa (5).

If you have never had the chance to deeply connect to the land, you will here. This area of Central Portugal has a very strong energy with abundance of lush forests, flowing cristaline clear water and powerful boulders.

Our land in particular offers breathtaking views, its own water from our mine, a very comfy caravan as stay (it's also our temporary home until our house is finished) and a little veggie garden. Within 20 minutes you can reach stunning natural pools and also urban centres with all ammenities.

We are looking for someone caring and connected to stay at our place, water the plants and take care of our Lufa, a very friendly female dog. She will find a place in your heart straightway. Lufa likes to take long walks in the forest, sleep in the sun, get wet and have a little cuddle.

I am planning to work in festivals during this Summer, so it would be amazing if you could support us with your presence and love!

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

You will be fully immersed in the local culture, and be sure the villagers will be curious about you and will try to establish contact. It is an amazing way to get to know the language and traditional ways through which people connect to the territory.

There is also a significant expat community around which you can get to know better by attending local events and markets. It will be easy to get in touch and know what is going on through the local Telegram group.

Public transportation is rare around here, so either bring your own vehicle or open up to the possibility to bike around or get a ride with someone. Hitchhiking is also an option.

We would love if you could take care of our dog Lufa, which entails going for a walk with her preferably twice a day, although she would also be happy with one long walk in the forest.
Also to water the plants around the caravan and the veggie garden will be very welcome. Water is abundant and easily available for this purpose.

    What else ...

You can visit the "poços" nearby, which are fabulous river beaches with transparent, fresh water from the mountains surrounded by huge boulders. You can also do trails and walks or visit the different "serras" (mountains) around.
You can also meet the locals at the café in the nearby village or wait for the next alternative market where you find delicious food and people.
More detailed information will be provided upon your arrival.

This is the Portuguese countryside. No public transport on weekends, rare public transport on weekdays.
There is a small village nearby (São João da Serra) where you can find a supermarket and café open every day and also an ATM.
Having your own transport is a plus. The closest urban centre (Oliveira de Frades) takes 20 minutes to reach by car.

Central Portugal always asks for a jacket at night. Bring your swim gear, you will not want to miss the opportunity to swim in the "poços".

    You will have fresh bedding.

    Washing machine available upon contribution.

    Be welcome!
