Description
Hi there,
My name is Svenja.
I live together with my brother Arne, his wife Antje, and my dog Thali in a big house by a lake in the beautiful region of Småland in southern Sweden.
Originally, we are from Germany, but we moved to Sweden more than 20 years ago with our families. Over the last decade, all our children have moved out, so we decided to find a place where we could live and grow old together.
Luckily, in the summer of 2025, the perfect place for us came onto the market and today we call it our home.
To make this already beautiful space feel more like “our place,” we had some things to add and some things to change.
We were very lucky to receive tremendous help from our families, friends, and a couple of great Workawayers, which allowed us to finish many of the tasks we had planned for this year.
Since there will still be more things to take care of, some things to repair, or tasks to work on, we are looking for volunteers to join us and help make the next year both productive and fun. We would prefer to host a couple or friends travelling together.
In exchange, we are happy to share our knowledge, teach you what you are interested in learning, provide everything you need, and offer you an unforgettable time at our place.
Our spring projects include:
* Preparing the vegetable garden
* Planting seeds
* Planting flowers
* Clearing the garden
* Cutting small trees
* Setting up a chicken pen
Our summer projects include:
* Light paint tasks around the house
* Various DIY projects
* Taking care of the vegetable garden
* General tasks around the property
* Trimming weeds
* Harvesting and cooking
Our autumn projects include:
* Crayfishing
* Picking mushrooms
* Harvesting and preserving
* Making lotions
* Making candles
* Preparing the garden for the winter
We would like to host volunteers who enjoy outdoor tasks and have some practical experience. It’s great if you feel confident using basic tools and enjoy hands-on tasks.
It is important to us that you are reliable, independent, and able to work well both in a team and on your own.
You should also be comfortable around dogs, as Thali sometimes needs a walk and could use a helping hand.
You will also need to have a driving license for occasional errands.
We love to teach what we know and are always happy to learn from each other. If we don’t know how to do something, we will figure it out together!
Working hours:
5 hours a day, 5 days a week.
We usually start around 9 a.m., take a short coffee break, have lunch together, and finish around 3 p.m. Depending on the weather, the schedule may vary.
Accommodation options include:
* Our guesthouse (if available), with its own bathroom and kitchen
* A room in my studio (also with a bathroom and kitchen)
* A cosy caravan
If you have your own van or would like to pitch a tent, there is a lovely spot for that as well.
We usually meet and eat together in the main house. We sometimes eat meat but often cook vegetarian/pescetarian meals. We hope you enjoy cooking too.
In your free time, you can swim, fish, canoe, go for walks, or simply relax.
We also have a hobby room with a ping-pong table, pool table, table football, and darts. You are allowed to borrow almost everything from us if you want to. You may use our bikes for a ride, our boats for a picnic, or a car for a road trip.
The area is beautiful and perfect for nature adventures.
We are joyful, open-minded, and caring people in our 50s and 60s. We enjoy spending time in nature, in our garden, or in our hobby room. We love playing card games and having long talks about everything and nothing.
Requirements:
* Practical mindset
* Open-minded
* Driving license
* Travel or health insurance
Minimum stay: 1 week
If you feel you are the right fit, I’d love to hear from you!
Warm regards, Svenja -

Emma and Willi were close by and needed a place to stay so they wrote me a note, offering their expertise exactly a day after another Workawayer suddenly postponed the arrangement we had.
