    Description

Hi, we are Celeste, Adriano and the little Xavier, a small italian-german speaking family in South Italy!
We live in Montemarano, a little village of wine makers and tarantella dancers! Indeed the vibes here are very positive thanks to the passions of the local community!
Adriano is born here in Montemarano, is a bio-wine maker and owns his vineyard I am an ethnographer and german teacher from Bologna, the famous university city of North Italy.
We have chosen to grow up our kid Xavier here on the land of his ancestors and constantly in contact with nature! The first things he sees as he opens up his window is our beautiful valley, with its vineyards, olive trees fields and mountains in front of us!
The strong community we are part of is open-hearted and welcomed me since the first moment I came here for my ethnographic researches, which made me want to stay here. Despite of our strong cultural roots, we also feel like an international european family, giving importance to an open-minded education, with full respect and curiosity towards all the different forms human beings, cultures, as well as animals and natural environments!
We painted our house blue like sommer afternoon skies, the same we love to look at spending beautiful time playing, dancing and laughing with friends!

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

We would also like to learn more about you, your culture and your experiences, so feel free to be yourself as a new part of our family! As I was 19 I also worked as au-pair in Germany for one year, so I give big value to the cultural exchange.
We always feel the need to learn something different from our world, which is so big and various, so it will be a gift for us to have you at our place, sharing your experiences, knowledge and culture with us!
I am a language teacher so I can give you italian lessons, starting from beginners level A1, up to upper levels. I can also teach spanish as well.
Adriano is a great cook and we can show you how to prepare italian traditional recipes! Our neighbours often gift us vegetables and fruit from their bio-gardens, so you would almost always eat "real" food!
In the afternoon and evening we love to do some tours, in nature, to other historical villages, archeologic sites or to the wonderful cities around us: Avellino, Naples, Salerno, Caserta and Benevento. You are welcome to come with us or to choose your favorite destination! We also love music and dancing, and we can teach you our traditional dances and tambourine, I am also a folk-singer so we can sing together our folk-songs. In summer we often go out in the nights to folksfests, and would love to share these experiences with you!

    Help

A very important thing for us is the cultural exchange that we can have together.
We would like to have some help with our Xavier, playing with him in our garden or inside and helping me by talking to him German, which I'm trying to teach him (but unfortunately I'm the only german speaker here in the neighborhood and in my family!). Having a bit of free time while you care after him would help me a lot by my master degree studies, which I'm trying to fulfill, while Adriano has his full-time job.
We would also need some help by cooking, tiding up and cleaning the shared parts of the house, but we don't expect you to do the whole job alone. We share our tasks and most of the times help each other, also teach Xavier how to help us (safely), so that he can be able soon to be independent. You would be also involved in our daily routine as a part of our family.
Xavier loves to talk, build things, sing and play keyboard, but most of all reading books and listen to stories. We usually read german books and hear german songs.
He is 3 years old and a lovely, very lively child, curious towards everything and loves to have attention.
We would need your help maximum 5 hours per day. Some days would probably be less than 2 hours, because if he's at school, we just need a couple of hours in the afternoon after he's back, than we would probably ask you to catch up some hours on another day. We can decide together if we'll follow a flexible schedule or a fixed schedule.
It could also happen that we would need some help babysitting him, if we both parents need to go out together, but that doesn't happen often.
We would also need some help with our pets, we have a dog and three cats. The help needed is just to feed them or clean them if we forget it.
We own family vineyards and produce wine just for family consumption. Adriano's family has a long story of wine making and he has learnt it from his mother since he was a child. During harvest time or after that, some Workaways have loved to help us in our vineyard or in our home winery. You can feel free to help us there if you want and learn something about bio wine-making.

This host offers a language exchange
I am a language teacher, I can teach Italian, my first language, German and Spanish. I can speak with you in German, which is for me my second language, and please need you you to speak almost exclusively German to our child Xavier. It would be important for the development of his German language skills if he listens to us speaking German and can interact with both of us. Adriano speaks Italian and his Montemaranese dialect. I would love to teach you Italian, my first language, with good organized language lessons, one or two times a week, if you want to learn it! You would practice informally with Adriano and also with me, when Xavier is asleep or busy, but also with our neighborhood and friends!

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

We can offer a private room with bathroom and shower, with private access.
The room is actually our studyroom, but we don't use it very often, so it will be completely free for you.
    There's a double-sized bed, a sigle bed, a fridge, a desk and an armchair.
The best part of the room are the two balconies which open directly on the view of our beautiful valley!
Unfortunately we don't have a private place for you to cook, indeed we would love to have you eating with us at lunch and dinner, but you can ask us, if you need to cook something on your own and eventually eat it in your bedroom or in the garden. You will clean up your meal and dishes yourself alone if you will eat alone, as well as we will do, if we eat alone without you.
We expect you to take care of your private bedroom, bathroom and balconies and to clean it regularly twice a week and at the end of your staying.
We can give you sheets and towels, which you will wash at the end of your staying here (if you stay just one week) or once a week if you stay more.
If you are smokers, it's not allowed to smoke inside the house or your room, but we have a big space outside and your private room has two balconies were you can feel free to smoke cigarettes.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

We live on the land, in 5 minutes (20 min by walk) by car we reach the center of our village Montemarano. Montemarano is a beautiful medieval village, where you can take a walk through its historical little streets, drink something fresh or a good cappuccino in a bar, chat with the local people and but typical food. You can also visit the two beautiful museums, the cathedral and the forest, or rent for free an e-bike and ride through the area, as well as reach the little forest, Bosco dei Morroni, if you want to walk in the nature. In the next village, Castelvetere Sul Calore, you can also find a small library where you can borrow Italian books, as well as little Carnival museum and a precious little medieval site. Our valley is partially surrounded by beautiful up to 2000 m high mountains, where you can wander, ride a bike, see free herds, so if you are a mountain lover, this is the right place for you!
From Montemarano you can take the bus to reach the main town of Avellino Mo-Sa (the next bus stop is 3 min by car and 10 min by walk from our home), and once a day a direct bus connection to Naples Mo-Fr. From Avellino you can reach by bus many places such as Naples, Salerno, Benevento, Caserta, Rome, Puglia, Matera Mo-Su. In Naples and Salerno you can take a regional or highspeed train to other Italian main cities. Both cities have an airport, Naples' is bigger. From Naples you can take the ferry to visit Costiera Amalfitana and the islands of Capri, Ischia, Procida, Ponza but also Sardinia and Sicily (but the last two not on a one-day trip)!
We can bring you any moment to Montemarano if you need it and eventually we can manage give you a lift to Avellino -or eventually Naples-, if we don't have some kind of issues (work, sickness of Xavier!).

You can feel free to use your camper/motorhome or the private room we offer, or just use its bathroom! We don't have much experience with campers but feel free to ask us anything that can be helpful! We can give you water, but will have to find together with you a solution for "black waters"!
