  • Description

    Description

This ecovillage land is held by a cooperative and is slowly being shaped by the people who live here.

We are currently 9 adults and 8 children, organizing ourselves through a sociocratic structure where decisions are made by consent.

We are in the process of becoming legally established while already living and building the project step by step.
Our intention is to regenerate the land and at the same time explore what it means to live in more honest and connected ways with ourselves, with each other, and with nature.

If you want to know more, you can visit guardarioscooperative.com

    Our Approach to Visitors:

We are experimenting with a different way of hosting.
We don’t separate between volunteers, guests, or workawayers. We see everyone as a visitor.
Instead of fixed expectations, we take time to understand each other. When you arrive, we will talk about what brings you here, what you need, and what you feel you can give.

We try to meet each other in a relational way rather than a transactional one.
This means we don’t measure things strictly in hours or money, but look for something that feels fair and supportive for everyone involved.
At the same time, we are honest that this project depends on contributions in time, energy, care, and also financially. If you are interested, we can share openly about our situation.

Before you leave, we take time again to reflect together. You can then decide for yourself how you would like to contribute.

    Before You Apply

To understand if we can host you, we ask you to answer a few questions:

    1. When and for how long would you like to visit ?
    2. Do you have your own accommodation, and if yes, what kind, if not, are you okay staying in a tent ?
    3. Do you have the financial possibility to contribute to food ?
    4. Please introduce yourself and share why you want to come ?

This helps us feel whether it’s a good moment for both sides.

    Food and Shared Spaces

    We share a vegan kitchen.
No animal products, caffeine, or processed sugar in shared spaces. You are free to have your own preferences in your private space.

    Agreements and Boundaries
(for more infos check the website!)

No alcohol or recreational drugs on site unless agreed as part of a group process. No smoking on the land, only on the road outside. We ask for respect for the space, the people, and the different rhythms here.

    Longer Stays

If it feels right for both sides, staying longer for weeks or months is very welcome.

People come here for different reasons, and we stay open to that.

Some are curious about this way of living and want to experience it, maybe even looking for a longer stay or a place to belong. Some want to learn or bring skills and share what they know. Some are traveling and looking for a place to land for a while. Some come to slow down, reconnect, or simply be.

    All of that is welcome

    Daily Life and Contribution:

Life here is a mix of practical work and shared living.
Depending on the season, this can include gardening and watering, building and maintenance, taking care of shared spaces, and spending time with the children. There are many children here, and they are very much part of daily life.

We are also open for creative and artistic contributions and welcome art to emerge on the land.

We don’t expect you to fit into a fixed role. We will find together what feels meaningful and possible during your stay.

    Accommodation

At the moment, we live quite simply.

We can offer 2 bell tents with beds, additional camping tents, and space for your own tent or van.

There is also a big blue yurt, which is our shared space for gatherings, movement, and events.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

500m of riverfront to explore and enjoy. walks across the land.
Many river beaches (praia fluvial) in the area. In 40min drive you can be up high in the serra da estrela mountains for hikes with magnificent views, in about 1 hour drive you can reach the city of Coimbra.

Nelas is about 10min by car and has all shops, laundry, supermarkets, pharmacy, cafés and a small weekly vegetable market. There is also a hiking path leading to Nelas.

Every weekend there are different monthly markets in different villages in the area, where the local community gathers to offer their crafts, food, art, performances etc.
Many people have their own farms, permaculture or community projects, so there is a lot of networking possible.
