    Description

We're a retired couple living with our dog Rosie on a 40 acre hobby farm 50 km south of Whitehorse. We originally came from Switzerland and our dream to live in the Yukon came true more than 30 years ago. We feel very lucky to live in such a stunning place right next to beautiful Lewes Lake in the southern lakes region of the Yukon. Wether you like hiking, biking, fishing, kayaking or canoeing... we can provide you with the right gear for any kind of adventure right in our backyard. Obviously, we love and treasure our rural lifestyle, we love being surrounded by pristine wilderness and we love getting the occasional glimpse of wild critters like moose, bears, coyotes, wolves and many more right on our property. We enjoy the outdoors and growing our own food in our gardens and greenhouse. We love to cook and eat together. Our meals vary depending on the season and what we have in our freezer or what’s available in our gardens. Wild meat from moose, home grown vegetables, cheese and dairy products, and homemade bread are integral parts of our diet. We hunt and preserve our own meat each fall and we grow high quality organic vegetables and greens in our gardens.

We enjoy meeting people from around the world and we welcome anyone participating in this program to be part of our family during their stay. We have a very comfortable guest bedroom with a private bathroom. We want our Work away folks to feel at home, have a great experience and last but not least have a good balance between work and fun. It is very important for us that time spent at our place is a positive and happy Win-Win for everyone!

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

We treasure our rural Yukon life style, living sustainably in the pristine North. We live very close to nature and coexist with all kinds of wild critters like bears, moose, caribou, wolves, eagles etc. We often encounter them out and about and we really enjoy living at the edge of the wilderness. Each season offers unique experiences, be it the weather, the animals you encounter, or the outdoor activities. If you're keen to learn about this lifestyle, this is the right place for you.

  • Help

    Help

We had an amazing first summer hosting several people through this program. It's been a rewarding experience and we're excited to continue hosting this year. Below is a brief outline of what projects we're planning this summer and the type of help we're looking for.

From late April on we're looking for help around our property and our garden and greenhouse. It's the time of the year when nature wakes up from winter and days are getting longer and warmer. Work starts with readying the garden and greenhouse for planting and seeding. Later it's tending to the growing vegetables, and harvesting salad and the fresh vegetables. Starting early fall we harvest and preserve our vegetables and get the garden ready for winter.

From mid May on we're also looking for help with completing the wood siding on our house and help with securely fencing in a larger area for farm animals. Later in the summer we'll be haying our fields and getting our firewood ready. We're also planning to work on our small cabin on the shore of beautiful Bennett Lake over the summer. This is a very remote location which can only be reached with our aluminum motor boat in the summer.

We 're looking for helpers who enjoy working outside, enjoy gardening and working with wood and being out on the land. We're happy to teach people new skills but we're also looking for folks who are handy, don’t mind physical work, and like to learn new skills.

Please contact us if you're interested in helping us this summer. We will make sure you'll have a great experience and lots of fun in the beautiful Yukon!
