    Description

Hey there! We’re Erez and Tali, an Israeli couple in our early 40s—husband and wife, best friends, and a superhero team with our 2 dog-kids and 7 cat-kids. 🐶🐱

We’re on a mission to bring Erez’s dream to life: building a self-sustainable, organic, eco-conscious off-grid farm community in the beautiful village of Santo Domingo de Savegre, Costa Rica. Our 30-acre farm sits along the Savegre River, right on the edge of the Savegre Nature Reserve.

    Our Journey So Far
When we bought it, this was just overgrown grassland. Since then, we've been working tirelessly to turn it into a cozy, growing haven. By now we have a place that's comfy, but still very much a work in progress. Our main living area, The Bodega, is a shared open-air space with an indoor/outdoor kitchen, gas amenities, a washing machine, compostable bathroom, hot shower, reliable Wi-Fi, and fans to keep us cool.

    **What We’ve Built (So Far!):**
    🌿 Two vanilla plantations
    🍌 Banana & plantain groves
    🍊 A budding fruit orchard
🥦 A unique greenhouse for organic veggies
    🐓 A free-range chicken coop
💧 Two handmade lagoons & an island (Erez named it *Tali’s Island of Love* 💕)

Our goal is to grow our own organic food while regenerating the land, upcycling materials, and creating a self-sustaining farm community. But for now, it’s just the two of us—working hard, learning as we go, and realizing that extra helping hands (especially those with experience) would be a game-changer!

    Where You Come In 😊
We’re looking for **hands-on, enthusiastic participants** who want to be part of building an organic ecovillage farm.

We currently have **1 room for 1 solo participant (no kids, no pets, sorry!)**, with a **1-week stay** as the ideal time frame—long enough to make a real impact, but not so long that it feels too isolated. If you're interested in a longer stay, let’s chat and see what works!

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

As we are Israelis, we absolutely cherish the art of opening our doors, gathering around the table, and exchanging ideas to learn from one another. During your time with us, you'll have the chance to explore a wide array of experiences, including managing a sizable ranch, tree planting, the art of crafting with upcycled and recycled materials, the ins and outs of vanilla planting and upkeep, raising truly free-range chickens, the magic of baking without an oven, perhaps some language lessons (covering Hebrew, Russian, English, and Spanish), and, if Erez is feeling especially generous, you might even pick up some acupressure and massage techniques! But, to be completely honest, we are hoping that we could learn even more from You.

    **Who We’re Looking For**
We’re not just looking for volunteers—we’re looking for **Participants**. The perfect fit? Someone proactive, hands-on, and creative, who thrives on collaboration, open communication, and getting things done. If you love the idea of **building something meaningful from the ground up**, enjoy a **nature-immersed, off-grid lifestyle**, and believe in **sustainable, upcycled living**, we’re on the same wavelength! (Think *Captain Fantastic* meets Costa Rica 😉).

    **What to Expect**
We want you to get the most out of your stay, so we’ll plan together—balancing work, rest, and fun based on the weather and your interests. Ideally, we work **5 hours a day, 5 days a week** (but if you’re eager for more, we’d love the extra hands!). Expect to be involved in all aspects of farm life—everything we do here is part of the daily rhythm.

    **⚠️ Important Update ⚠️**
Right now, we’re in an **intensive work phase**—fast-paced and hands-on. If you’re looking for a relaxed, leisurely experience, this **isn’t the right fit**. Please apply only if you’re ready to roll up your sleeves. **Thank you!**

**Skills We Need Most (Priority Given to #1 & #2)**

    **1️⃣ Builders, Welders, Woodworkers & Carpenters** 🛠️🔨
Got experience with wood, metal, cement, or construction tools? We upcycle A LOT of materials and could really use someone who knows how to **build furniture, structures, and functional farm setups**.

    **2️⃣ Holistic Medicine / Massage / Acupuncture** 🌿💆‍♂️
Erez is a certified acupuncturist & masseuse, but his back needs some TLC! If you’re skilled in **massage, acupuncture, or holistic medicine**, we’d be incredibly grateful for your help.

    **3️⃣ Gardeners & Green Thumbs** 🌱🪴
Love getting your hands in the dirt? We need help **pruning, weeding, planting, and maintaining** our various plantations and raised beds.

    **4️⃣ Artists** 🎨🌿
If you have a creative touch, we’d love for you to **bring art to our space**! Send us samples of your work so we can see if it fits our vision.

    **5️⃣ Cleaning & Household Help** 🧼🍽️
If you love keeping things tidy and don’t mind washing dishes or sweeping up, you’d be a lifesaver in our big, busy household!

    **6️⃣ Chicken Coop Caretakers** 🐓🥚
Tali’s not a fan of chickens, so it’s all up to Erez—and he needs help! We have 100+ chickens, quails, and ducks that need daily feeding, cleaning, and egg collecting.

    **Join Us!**
We’re excited to share this journey with like-minded, passionate people. Let’s **build, create, and grow** something incredible together! 🌿💚

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

    **PLEASE NOTE** 🚨
We can only accommodate **ONE solo traveler at a time**—thank you to all the lovely couples and travel buddies who apply, but we simply don’t have space for more than one person.

    ---

    **About the Living Space 🏡**
Welcome to The Bodega—our funky, open-air home-in-progress! You'll have a private Queen bedroom equipped with mosquito netting, storage drawers, hanging hooks, a ceiling fan, fresh bedding, and towels. We ask that you **keep your space clean** (no food in the room to avoid bugs!) and return it to its original tidy state before you leave.

Our home is **very much a shared space**, with two bathrooms (one for us, one for guests), a communal kitchen, and frequent visits from our construction team as they build around us. **Privacy is minimal**, and due to the open-air design, there’s little soundproofing—just so you know what to expect!

**Wi-Fi?** ✅ Yes! We’ve got **Starlink**, so the internet is fast and reliable.

    ---

    **Food & Drink 🍉🥦**

Erez runs the kitchen, and we like to keep it that way! He’ll help provide everyone with **basic meals, mostly vegetarian**, with the occasional fish and eggs from our chickens.

Our food philosophy is rooted in sustainability and cost-efficiency, as food in Costa Rica is expensive. We make every meal fresh to minimize leftovers and waste. Whenever possible, we use homegrown produce.

Please note, our home is **free of dairy and meat**. You're welcome to bring your own **store-bought food**, but **absolutely no pork, shellfish, or alcohol, please.**

**Special dietary needs?** Let us know in advance so we can see if we can accommodate.

🚫 **No alcohol or drugs**. Please respect our farm’s drug-free environment.
    ---

    **Laundry 🧺**

**Only Tali** operates the washing machine to keep it running smoothly, so please **sort your clothes and hand them over to her** to start the wash cycle. Once it’s done, you can **hang your clothes in the sun to dry**.
If you need a **special detergent**, please bring a **biodegradable one**.

    ---
    **Personal Hygiene & Bathrooms 🚿🚽**
Please bring eco-friendly toiletries (shampoo, conditioner, soap, etc.), as our sewage system is compostable and needs to stay chemical-free.

Our bathrooms are compostable, so nothing goes into the toilet—not even toilet paper! Trash bins are provided for disposal. Thanks for helping us keep our system running smoothly! 🌿♻️

    **Getting Around 🚗**
We’re 13 km from the main highway, so plan your arrival with us in advance.

    ---

We’re excited to welcome you to our little slice of paradise! 🌿💚 Let’s build, grow, and create something amazing together!

  • What else ...

    What else ...

The biggest attraction that is closest to home is the nature, there are lots of natural beauties to see and experience here. Part of the property is a small waterfall with a clear-water lagoon, we go there to 'chill' around midday when the sun gets way too hot. You can fish anywhere on the Savegre river, there are several access points from our ranch to the riverbed. Plenty of very beautiful hiking trails where you can bird-watch or night-watch (if you're brave - we do see an occasional puma and Ocelot around here, though they don't really come close to the living space due to our dogs). Our neighbor will be happy to arrange horse riding tours for you with his horses for a small payment. Our other neighbor may teach you the art of wooden flute making or guitar playing. Another friend in a nearby village has a gorgeous system of trails with 5 magestic waterfalls. Farther away in Quepos to the north has many attractions and shopping places, it's about 45 minutes drive away. Matapalo to the south is one of the most beautiful sunset beaches, and if you're here around tortoise season you may see some baby sea turtles (kindly guide them back to the ocean). Our friend on Matapalo provides some of the most unforgettable horse ride tours on this beach at either sunset or sunrise. A little more to the south is Dominical, a sweet surf town with plenty of great restaurants and pop shops. And more to the south (about an hour's drive from the ranch) is Uvita, with plenty of shopping, restaurants, beautiful beaches, waterfalls etc.

Note: The weather here is tropical, it's ruled by pretty much one season all year round: Summer. What the locals call 'winter' is basically just hot summer with lots of rain. Normally the days are hot, noon is super hot, and afternoon is usually rainy. During October - January it rains very heavily. And the nights can get a little bit chilly sometimes (I love it, Erez thinks it's cold). So it's a good idea to bring a mix of clothes that'll fit very hot weather and very rainy/muddy weather as well.
