    Description

    ***

We are a Sami family looking for a little help at home and in the mountains, when we are with the reindeer.
We live in Norway, Finnmark in a small village called Kautokeino.
Our family consists of Sara (mother, 27) and Jon Tomas (father, 29) and our two daughters aged 6 and 3. We also have a dog.
Sara works at home and takes care of the children. Dad is often in the mountains. And if not, he's always doing something at home. We also run a tourism business, so in those times when there is a lot of work there, we need someone to help us with the children.
Our family also has many reindeer.
Reindeer farming is very varied, and our lifestyle depends on the reindeer and the weather, so we live day to day. Sometimes it can be very busy and some days we can just relax.
NOTE! We are also very spontaneous, suddenly there can be changes in the plans. So here you just have to hold on.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

We are a Sami family living in the heart of Sapmi.
The Sami are the indigenous group of Northern Europe, and we have a very distinct culture that travelers can learn about.
Our culture is centered around the reindeer; it is involved in every aspect of our life.
Our city, Kautokeino, is often called the capital of the Sami world, and we have a museum, the Sami university, the Sami radio station and the Sami national theater here, so there are many opportunities to learn about our culture.
You can also try to learn our language, Sami, when you live with us. 90% of people in Kautokeino speak Sami so it is easy to practice.

There are many outdoor activities to do in Kautokeino as well, such as hiking, skiing, etc. In the winter we have the northern lights and in the summer we have the midnight sun, so it is truly a remarkable place to experience!
We also live very close to the Finnish and Swedish.

  • Help

    Help

We are looking for someone to come to us, to help around the house and with our children. We are also in the mountains a lot, so extra hands will certainly be needed when we are in the mountains with the reindeer.

    Household tasks/children:
Since both parents work variedly, we need some help around the house and with our girls. We can always welcome help to cook dinner, clean the house and play with the children.
Sometimes we need help to collect the children from the nursery.
The children do not speak English, but they really enjoy practicing speaking English.
It is also greatly appreciated if you are independent and see for yourself what needs to be done/should be done.
And also if you have special pedagogy, or have worked a lot with children, including children with a range of functions.

In the spring, summer and autumn, we have high season in the company, we run a company and welcome hunters and fishermen who want to come to us. So then we needed extra hands in the home. This is also a time when there is work in the reindeer herding, so then we are extra spontaneous. Because things can suddenly happen and some of us have to go to the reindeer, while the other stays at home to run the business.
In the spring, we are mostly in Kautokeino, with the reindeer, and company, so it is very easy to relate to here.
