Description
Come join our family in the small village of Kautokeino, in the wild landscape of Northern Norway. We are Sami's who work with reindeer and talk the sami language. Also, our town Kautokeino is one of the largest Sami communities, where Sami culture and reindeer herding is alive and thriving. Here you will experience the culture by living in it.

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
In our home and in society, Sámi language and culture is strong, vibrant and alive. Here you will hear and learn about sami culture, language, and reindeerherding.
I would like to point out that the stay will most likely NOT include visits to our reindeer herd, but I would be happy to share our way of life and teach you about our culture. -

Help
Your tasks will vary depending on your skills and when you are planning to stay. In general, we need help with housework (cleaning and tidying up) and cooking family meals, baking, and maybe even help out with the kids; like playing outside with them. It is very positive if you can bake(!), and if you are good with kids(!!). Just to clarify, we’re mainly looking for a housekeeper, not an au pair. That said, our children will naturally be around most of the time, and so will one or both of us.
From time to time, we may travel and ask you to look after the house and perhaps even care for our dog. Therefore, it’s important that you are independent, responsible, and comfortable staying on your own while we are away.
There may be other tasks, that depends on your skills and when you are staying. This could be painting projects (inside or outside the house), assist on carpentry projects, DIY projects, chop firewood, or even shovel snow.
1-2 people are fitted for us.
We are reindeerherders, and eat a lot of meat. If you are a vegetarian or vegan, you have to make your own food preps. And you have to be able to handle meat (chopping it, cooking it), because making familydinner will be a main task. -

Accommodation
You will have your own accommodation, either a cabin or a room in our private home (depending on when you are planning to stay).
If you get a cabin, then you will have your own bedroom, kitchen, and living room. The bathroom is shared.
If you have a room in our private home, the family is most likely traveling, and you will be alone, handling housekeeping and pet-sitting duties.
That being said, you will most of the time have your own living space. -
What else ...
Maybe you could come with us to our mountain cabin and help out with the kids and do other tasks. I can’t promise this yet, but I wanted to mention the possibility.
We are an outdoorsy family, and would love it if you are too. But it is not a requirement. This will be more fitted to someone that will stay for a longer periode. If someone would like to stay for months or even a year, this may be possible. -
