Description
Live in the stunning city of Cusco while learning about Peru and improving your Spanish!
We are a Peruvian–Dutch family living in Cusco, and we have been working in tourism since 1998 (accommodation, language school, travel agency). Due to the pandemic and the political unrest in Peru, we were closed for almost three years, but we re-opened in 2023! We’ll be thrilled with one or two Workawayer(s) to assist us and our small team with various tasks and responsibilities. We offer accommodation & Spanish lessons in Cusco, an excellent opportunity for those who want to improve their Spanish skills and learn about Peruvian culture while living in the beautiful city of Cusco. The minimum commitment is 6 weeks (preferably three months).Types of help and learning opportunities

You will have the chance to meet many people from different countries and Peruvians and learn how to run a small tourism business in a country like Peru. You will learn about the local culture, food, and Cusco's hidden gems. And of course, your Spanish will improve greatly, thanks to the free Spanish lessons and the practice with local people.
We would love to work with proactive Workawayers who help us improve our services. The longer you stay, the more responsible and varied the help will be, and there will be other exciting opportunities for you, like coordinating our volunteer program, re-designing our promotion material, and helping start an English school for locals.
During the weekends, you can go hiking around the nearby Sacred Valley, visit Machu Picchu, go to Rainbow Mountain, and more; in the evenings, the students usually go out for dinner / to a café in town.Projects involving children

Help
Depending on your interests, experiences, and skills, you can assist in different areas. We run a Spanish language school for international students, and one of the roles for volunteers is to be our student services coordinator. You will receive the new students, give a briefing, organize different cultural activities, and provide information about the tours in Cusco and its surroundings.
We also offer accommodation to our students in apartments (that need re-decoration, maybe some painting and artwork) and with local host families. Finally, we also run a travel agency in Cusco, and we need someone to give information to travelers about the tours we offer, improve the tour descriptions on the websites, and make content for the website and social media (videos, photos, blog articles). For long-term stay and according to your experiences and skills, there are other projects where you could be involved. We offer free accommodation and Spanish lessons.
We expect you to work 5 hours daily from Monday to Friday and occasionally during the weekend (e.g. when you have to participate in a tour). Volunteers must be serious about their commitment, hardworking, proactive, and have good social skills. You should have a (high) intermediate English level and already speak some Spanish. In our experience, volunteers between 22 - 32 years old have the best experience volunteering with us.Languages spoken

The accommodation is in a big (furnished) room (for 1 -2 people) at 20-25 minutes walking distance from Cusco’s town center, with good WIFI and a nice, sunny courtyard at the house of one of our family members with many possibilities to speak Spanish. The accommodation is basic, but you have everything you need. You may also use the shared kitchen and bathroom.
What else ...
Cusco is a stunning city, a traveler hub, and simultaneously very authentic, but with all the commodities for travelers and expats. The place is perfect for immersing in local culture, hiking the mountains, and visiting the Inca ruins and towns nearby. It is easy to contact the locals and practice your Spanish. You can easily walk (during the day) as Cusco is a small town, but if you go out at night, you can take a taxi that won't cost you much. The house where volunteers live is a bit out of the city center in a typical neighborhood next to the hospital; here, you will experience what 'living' in Cusco truly means, a bit away from the (more expensive) tourist restaurants, shops, and cafes. Perfect for an authentic immersion experience!
