Description
We are a young creative couple living in the cultural center of Java with our 4 year old son. We run an eco tour business, an upcycle crochet project and a homestay in the center of Yogyakarta. And we love to meet like minded people to help us in our mission.
Our mission is to create awareness around plastic waste and all environmental related problems in Indonesia.
We try to channel these values into our three main projects:
1) Eco Tours: we offer adventurous off the beaten path trips and experiences all around Java and Bali. Our tours are unique in a way that we reduce garbage effectively while traveling with groups ( a big effort in a country like Indonesia!) and we also show people places where no tourists have been before. As much as possible we work together with NGO's and local initiatives. It's all about the experience and getting to know the country you are visiting. Not only going home with photos and memories but also have an understanding about the local culture and people.
2) Upcycling of plastic waste: we buy, sort and process plastic waste to make upcycled products from scratch. It is all manually crocheted into key chains, toilet bags, purses and more. If you are creative and into these kind of handicrafts you are welcome to help and join us in the full process.
3) Homestay: since 2024 we opened a homestay in the second floor of our house. Our homestay is designed in a minimalistic and modern way with a touch of natural materials like teak wood and air purifying plants. We manage the guests their garbage effectively and work together with a scrap collector around the corner that sells the usable materials for his own income. Plastic bottles, glass, cardboard, paper etc are all valuable materials that can be reused/sold. Our homestay needs constant marketing on social media and therefore you can help with things like creating content, making and writing posts. Managing our Instagram, Facebook, website etc. (It would be very useful if you have a decent camera and/or drone to make better videos and photos of our place).

In our place you are in the middle of the cultural center of Java, Yogyakarta. In the past we were active workawayers ourselves and we hope to bring that spirit back by becoming a host many years later. In our place we welcome all kinds of people interested in creativity, handicrafts, social media, marketing, begin outside, etc. There is always something to do in our house!
If you are looking for cultural exchange with locals and learn everything about Indonesia you are in the right place. We live in a local residential area close to the center that has many opportunities to learn about the life and people in Indonesia. You will not only learn from us but also learn from the neighbours and the area we live in. There are many friendly local children and people to interact with during your stay with us.

We are searching for creative people with SKILLS who can help us with our homestay, tour business and upcycle project:
- take and create photos to make our businesses more visible on social media (photos, ads,...).
- take and create videos to make our businesses more visible on social media (reels,ads).
- SEO and website related stuff if you happen to know about that and want to help
- Maybe market our businesses to new markets such as in the country where you are from (France, Germany, Netherlands, Spain,...)
- DIY projects (for example upcycle crochet handicrafts)
- construction tasks around the house (the house always needs maintenance!)
As a side activity to get away from the computer work (to fill up time but they are not the main work):

We can offer language exchange with local kids but this is not the main activity we want to offer through workaway. So if you are interested in language exchange there is an opportunity on the side of the main work.
Accommodation
We offer a double room in our beautiful homestay on the second floor (that can be set up as a double bed or a twin bed). This is a room we normally rent out but if you are interested in doing Workaway with us you are welcome to stay there. The room has airco, WiFi, a shared or private bathroom, and all facilities and amenities a homestay offers. Food is not included (but we can share costs and cook together if you want to keep costs low).
What else ...
We can pick you up from the main station of Yogyakarta (TUGU) when you arrive. It is only 5 minutes from our house!
