    Description

Greetings to all travelers eager to discover other places and ways of life in the world!
My name is Maria. I came to this beautiful planet 63 years ago. I love nature and people.
I've been volunteering for 24 years (until a month ago in the land of Don Quixote), and the experience has always been very pleasant. Since I can't travel the world right now, let the world come to me! Volunteering is a bit like traveling!
Anyone visiting La Encina should come prepared with a sleeping bag if possible. We usually go camping and hiking through beautiful places in the Natural Park! And if it's summer, we'll go to the placid rivers and lagoons to swim and camp for a few days surrounded by the fresh water and the leafy trees.

My new home is located on Calle Cruz de San Nicolas del Puerto, the highest and most leafy village in the Sierra Norte de Sevilla Natural Park. Here, it's 7°C cooler than in Seville, and the nights and mornings are cool. Just around the corner from my house is a beautiful river called Galindo, which has been conditioned for swimming and is called San Nicolas Beach. It's a joy to swim in its fresh, clean water, as it rises just 100 meters from the bridge. The Hueznar River also originates in this small town. It's a beautiful forest with a pleasant terrace where you can have a drink while listening to the sound of the water and the birds of the forest.
It has many hiking trails and a Great Green Way; as well as two Batanes (a type of fern) and many forests and mountains.
Cu, a cute old white cat, lives at home. Sometimes my lovely children and grandchildren, who live in other cities, visit me; I also receive visits from some friends. They are sometimes rental guests.

The garden has fruit trees, olive trees, and almond trees; there are also recreational areas with shade trees and ornamental plants. In my new home, I also want to grow a small vegetable garden for self-sufficiency. I usually use permaculture, although I'm not a professional in this technique, I have practiced it before on my farm. I would love for volunteers to contribute their experience and creativity to the design of the terrace, which we plan to convert into a garden. Currently, the cottage only has pots of ornamental plants, although the vegetable garden project awaits you!
At the end of November, we will go to my plot and harvest the olives by hand, gently scaling the branches. They are generally picked by shaking or with machines that vibrate the trunk of the olive tree, but both methods seem very aggressive to me. Almonds are harvested in October, although they don't produce much fruit every year.
How can you help me throughout the year? (Once the beds and flowerbeds are built) the help would involve setting up and caring for the vegetable garden and ornamental plants, cleaning the house, cooking, teaching me English, and helping me with my computer skills.
When we go hiking (if you're interested and if it's the season), we can collect aromatic plants and make some natural soaps and creams. We can also do a candle-making.

I've done a lot of personal work. I've worked for 10 years with the teachings of Krishnamurti, delving deeper and learning to live according to his philosophy of life. I studied psychotherapy. I sometimes lead self-knowledge workshops.

I've practiced yoga for years. I practice it less now, but it will be a pleasure to practice together, as well as meditation and deep dialogue. I'm not interested in controversy as such.

I love creating dishes in the kitchen, almost always improvised, albeit simple; I like learning recipes from different parts of the world. I love laughing and listening to live music. Although I don't play any instrument professionally, I sometimes practice the djembe and the electronic organ for pure pleasure, since I don't know any music theory.

I love hiking and bike touring, when obligations allow. Camping near rivers, lakes, and forests, because walking through nature is my passion. I also really enjoy painting landscapes from nature and writing. I'm currently writing a book about self-discovery. I increasingly feel the call to walk for months.
Come visit me! This place is truly beautiful and bucolic.

Through my experience in the orchard and garden, along with observing Nature, which has shown me so much, I've learned a lot. My relationship with all living things in the countryside has been my greatest lesson. A very beautiful time to live in this part of the world is autumn. Its pleasant temperature and the diversity of colours make those months something very special in this landscape. Spring too, of course? It's another beautiful time to share this climate. I must discover winter in this area; it seems to be somewhat cold, and that has its charm. The mornings will be frosty, and temperatures will rise to 12-14ºC at midday, a time when it will be very pleasant to ride a bike along the Green Way. I prefer to receive volunteers who have at least basic knowledge of the Spanish language, since my English is very and poor and misunderstandings are often created if we cannot communicate verbally.

He hecho bastante trabajo personal. Estudie psicoterapia. A veces hago talleres de auto-conocimiento.
He practicado yoga por años.
Animaos a visitarme!

    What else ...

Here in the summer it gets hot: up to 35º during the day. In those cases, we work during the cooler morning hours, about three or four hours, which may or may not be split between morning and afternoon. The work is light. Volunteers usually work 4 or 5 hours and have 2 days off.
One activity I often do with the volunteers is outings to beautiful natural areas and wild camping. We also go cycling or short bike rides. In the summer we go to lakes and rivers. The Sierra Norte Natural Park has abundant water and there are many places to swim.
The food is ovo-lacto vegetarian. Generally, my menu is simple; but when there are volunteers, I try to adapt to theirs, always keeping in mind a healthy diet. I feel so grateful for everything life gives me that it's hard to throw away food.
There are buses from Seville to San Nicolás del Puerto. There are also commuter trains; the station where you need to get off is called Cazalla-Constantina. I'll pick you up there.
