We are Pam and John, recently retired, and living part of the time (January-April) on the road as Workawayers in Latin America, and the rest of the time in the beautiful Pacific Northwest. We have a log cabin a few miles southeast of Mt. St. Helens, in Washington state, just 1.5 hours from Portland, Oregon. It is a few acres, on a beautiful creek and a short walk from two other bigger rivers, just steps from the Gifford Pinchot National Forest. We are surrounded by old growth forests, waterfalls, hiking and biking trails, lakes, hills, valleys. We spend alot of time at the off-grid cabin during summer and fall, and need help with a variety of projects.

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
If English is not your primary tongue, we would certainly be delighted to help you learn more, plus we both speak Spanish. We can share our love for the Pacific Northwest and introduce you to our forests, rivers, lakes, waterfalls, mountain biking, and we can teach you fly fishing, and wood-fired pizza baking, and share local wines and foods over conversation. We love to sit on our deck and watch the sunset and enjoy talking about life!
Projects could include cutting down trees, bucking, splitting, and stacking firewood, painting, wood furniture making, invasive species brush clearing, water storage system maintenance, solar power maintenance, wood-fired hot tub maintenance (and relaxation!), landscaping, and much more. We will work alongside you in all the tasks, and help you to learn anything you are not familiar with.

We had such a fantastic experience with Morgan, Braham, Jax, and Charlie for a week at our cabin. It immediately felt like family, they are all very easy going and comfortable to hang, talk, and work alongside with. We got alot of work done at our property, mostly dealing with fireproofing the lot, so we cleared alot of sticks, mulched and made a… read more path, and moved/stacked lots of wood. They also helped with some hard to reach window cleaning, and finishing of a new wood storage hut. So the work they provided was greatly appreciated, but our favorite part was just getting to know these two fascinating souls, and their obedient yet playful and cuddly dogs. We shared many conversations about life, our travels, and more over meals and while working or exploring the forest together. They both worked very hard at whatever task we requested and volunteered much assistance around the house beyond that. We would highly recommend Morgan and Braham to anyone seeking competent Workawayers
John & Pam were exceptional hosts! They went above and beyond to make our 1 week stay at their special cabin comfortable and satisfactory. I would recommend this Workaway Host to anyone looking for an intentional, genuine experience with two incredible humans who take their work and play/adventure time seriously. It was inspiring to see how well… read more they took care of their property - a true piece of Heaven on Earth! John was a great leader in introducing projects and working alongside us with positivity at the forefront. Pam joined in on the work as well and the four of us accomplished A LOT during our stay. It was energizing working alongside this well-traveled Workaway Couple and we were impressed with all of their meals. Pam is a fantastic cook and John a great baker! As conversationalists, we loved chatting about life and appreciated their genuine friendship.
John & Pam encouraged us to use their wood fired hot tub and they shared so many resources and suggestions for exploring the area, which is FULL of lush nature. We enjoyed strolling down the hill for polar plunges, stoking the hot tub for a dip after dinner under the stars, picking blackberries next door, and finding magic in their nearby protected forest trail. On our days off, we had the opportunity to experience new, enriching hobbies with this couple and their friends including: foraging for berries and mushrooms, making homemade meals, strumming instruments and singing during sunset, and playing new games alongside laughter and storytelling.
As dog owners and Workawayers, we take pride in how well our dogs are trained and able to adjust to any situation and supervising during work days. John & Pam not only welcomed Charlie and Jax into their home with open arms, but treated them like family! It made our hearts full to witness the love they shared for our furry companions. From inviting them off-leash on hikes, playing fetch with Charlie, and cuddling with Jax, Pam & John truly connected with our dogs and we are so grateful for their welcoming energy. Also, they had the opportunity to play and explore with a new dog friend Eddy during their stay.
Overall, we are so grateful that this opportunity aligned! It was a reciprocal experience full of respect, generosity, kindness, and support. Thank you, John & Pam, for hosting us for 1 week, entrusting us in the work on your special property, and treating our unit like close friends! We are looking forward to exploring the area in the future and reconnecting.
Bryan was an exceptionally good fit for us this summer. From the very start he fit well into our family, friends, and work rhythms. We had really good conversations with Bryan about meaningful topics, and feel like we have made a friend for years to come. I had a great experience with my hosts, John and Pam at their beautiful cabin ~5 miles from the base of Mount Saint Helens. The work matched what they described but being Workawayers themselves, they were very accommodating, friendly, generous and genuine. They helped bail me out of an automotive breakdown issue I had and then blessed me with… read more sights and experiences I would never have had if I was just a tourist in the area. I consider them friends and look forward to having them to my house in the future. Thank you so much John and Pam!!!
