Description
NO AVAILABILITY until June 2025. Preference for 2-6 month workaway stays.
We are a small family in Chicago with big hearts. We are a working mom with 1 teenage child. We often host international exchange students. Although we are in a big city, we have backyard chickens, one medium sized dog. We have a variety of plants inside and out. Our dog is a friendly, so anyone who stays should be comfortable with a 22 lb dog who wants to be your friend. You must like dogs and be willing to walk the dog/ pick up the dog poop each day.
The main work you will do is to clean the house and yard (about 1 -2 hours per day) and walk the dog (about 20 minutes per day). Occasionally there will be an "extra work" asked such as "help clean the garden or garage".... a total of about 6 - 10 hours per week of work.
Note: we only intend to host a few workawayers a year (not back to back) because we like to travel ourselves.

Chicago is a world class city with great architecture, interesting museums including the Art Institute of Chicago, restaurants, nightlife, and so much to see and do. If you're an active person, during warmer months our lakefront is amazing (it's a 3 mile bike or run from our home to Foster Beach and a 19 mile lakefront trail).
Projects involving children
This project could involve children. For more information see our guidelines and tips here.
Help
I would ask for general house help: cooking, cleaning, watering plants, light yard work (it's a very small yard and a small back patio) such as raking leaves, sweeping the patio, feeding chickens and bringing in eggs, and walking the our dog (20 minutes every day). Also help with other homeowner maintenance projects (projects such as washing windows, sweeping garage, etc).

Chicago is a great city with public transportation. Our home is about 40-45 minutes from downtown by bus/ train. Near our home are running and bike paths (we can lend you various bikes). We are an early to bed/ early to rise family and our days revolve around school schedules.

Can host families
Can host digital nomads
I have hosted digital nomads. My WIFI bandwidth is sufficient. The hours you are working affect what spaces we have available. We are often gone during the school day, in which case you can work in the main rooms. If you are working when we are home you would need to work from your private bedroom.
